Lawrence "Larry" Hamre, age 92, of Rochester, died Sunday Feb. 4, 2018, at Shorewood Senior Campus.

Lawrence Allen Hamre was born March 1, 1925, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Walter and Wanda (Allen) Hamre. He was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from East High School in 1943. Larry served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War.

On June 24, 1950, he married Eileen Hofer in Des Moines, Iowa. Larry graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in Engineering and received his master's degree in Business Administration from Drake University in Des Moines.

Larry worked for the John Deere Company before moving to Minneapolis, where he was an Engineer for the Unisys Company. The couple moved to Lakeville in 1960, and to Rochester in 2011. Larry was very active in his church and community, serving in 4-H, and the Lakeville Lions Club before transferring his membership to the Rochester Host Lions Club. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen; sons, Reid (Robin) of Roswell, Ga., Ross (Maria) of Montgomery, Ohio, and John (Marsha) of Rochester; six grandchildren, Lori Jenkins, Rex Hamre, Alex Hamre, Amanda Distad, Clayton Hamre, and Brent Hamre; and four great-grandchildren, Gus and Lila Jenkins, Owen Distad, and Hank Hamre. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, with the Rev. Carl-Eric Gentes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday before the service. A reception will be held following the service. Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Preston.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice. Friends may share a memory at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
