Lawrence Hart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 12, 2025.
Lawrence "Larry" William Hart, 66, of Dover, NH, rode off into the sunset for the last time on November 6, 2025, likely on his beloved Honda Goldwing. Born in Exeter, NH, on September 28, 1959, Larry grew up in Hampton and spent most of his life in Dover with the love of his life and wife of over 40 years, Gaylyne.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, and "Grampa," survived by his wife Gaylyne, his daughters Tanya and Nicole Hart (and Nicole's partner Kelly Park), his son Jonathan Hart (and wife Kerry), his sister Betsy Brunelle (and husband Dale), his brother David Hart, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss his steady presence, dry humor, and countless "Grampa-isms."

His greatest joys were his grandkids- Dexter, Annabelle, Spencer, Joey, Brady and Fiona- who could always count on him for a laugh, a story, or a completely nonsensical answer like, "It's upstairs in the basement." He adored being their Grampa almost as much as he loved teasing them.

An avid motorcyclist (though he somehow never rode with his daughter, to her eternal dismay), Larry found his peace on solo rides through the mountains and down the Kancamagus Highway. He was also a devoted crane rigger and operator for over 46 years, most recently with Moore's Crane, where his skill, dedication and mentorship earned him immense respect.

At home, Sunday mornings were for cleaning and blasting his favorite Rolling Stones tune, "You Can't Always Get What You Want," while the kids whined and he sang along unfazed. His diet was a reflection of his no-nonsense nature: hot dogs, Little Debbie snacks and McDonald's Quarter Pounders with cheese- salt and mustard only. He loved Saturday morning cartoons, bad jokes and making everyone around him laugh.

Larry was a proud and beloved member of the Elks, serving actively for 22 years with Portsmouth Lodge #97. Throughout his many years of dedication, he held numerous titles- including Esquire, PER (three times), PDD, PSP and HML. He made countless lifelong friends through the Elks, where he was admired as both a mentor and a friend. He hopes his fellow Elks will continue to share their chocolate milk with others and that we'll all raise a Bud Heavy in his honor.

A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Sunday, November 23rd in Portsmouth Elks Lodge #97, where stories, laughter, and maybe a few hot dogs will be shared in his memory.

Larry was a vital part of my Elk adventures with his knowledge and wisdom and especially his laughter at just about everything. I will miss him dearly and will never forget him. I always said to him " You are a walking Elk´s handbook because you know so much about the Order".

I first met Larry when he was the Elks District Deputy South when he came to audit the Portsmouth Elks Lodge when I was the treasurer. I didn´t know him then but I got to know him when he transferred into the Portsmouth Lodge from Dover. As I got to know Larry I learned that this was a man who was a very dedicated Elk. I have been a member for 46 years and an office for about 30 years and I never met anyone who could recite every officers part and every ceremonial part from memory without making a mistake. Larry was a good man and a great Elk. He was always respectful and knew how to listen. He knew all the statutes of the Elks and was definitely the one to go to if you wanted to know what was required and how it was to be done. He will be missed by all who knew him and especially the Elks. I offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to Gaylyne and all of Larry´s family.

As a kid, Larry's quiet resolve always kinda scared me. However his kindness was also very apparent. Thank you for allowing me all the time in your house with your kids, drinking your soda, and playing on your computer. I'm sorry for your loss Nicole, Jon, Tanya, and Gay. May he rest in peace.

Larry was a great guy! We enjoyed many Elks conventions with him! Always funny and also a very down to earth and sweet guy. He will surely be missed. My heart goes out to his family who no doubt has been left with a void. May your memories keep you smiling until you meet again.
