Lawrence Benjamim Nelson

Lawrence "Larry" Benjamin Nelson, 58, passed away on May 2, 2023, in Long Beach, CA. He was born on November 19, 1964, in Chicago Heights, IL, to Andrew Edward Nelson Sr. and Ester M. Cohen-Nelson. Larry proudly served his country as a Marine for three years. Everyone knows though, that once a Marine, ALWAYS a Marine. Hoorah!! He was a project inspector for contract compliance and worked for various construction companies in Northern California, including Sacramento County Building Permits. His biggest and brightest job was caring for his children.

Larry was a devoted father to his children, David Andrew Nelson and Danica Rose Nelson. He was also a loving uncle to Britnae Nelson Stevens and a caring brother to Katie Leigh and Vickie Leonard. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence B. Nelson II, his identical twin brother, Andrew Edward Nelson Jr., and his parents - Ester Cohen-Nelson, and Andrew Edward Nelson, Sr.

Larry was known for his storytelling and sense of humor. He should be called the " Greatest storyteller who ever lived." He loved making everyone laugh. He wanted to be a comedian but had said, "Everyone would just laugh at me." His greatest joy was being a dad. He would do anything for his children. When Danica had a Volleyball tournament in Long Beach, his being in a wheelchair was not going to stop him from watching her play. He rode his electric wheelchair onto a bus to watch her and honked his wheelchair horn to cheer her on........very loudly and for a very long time. Even after 4 back surgeries he was able to teach David how to ski at the age of 3, and wakeboard not long after that. He was so proud of them and will truly be missed.

Memorial services for Larry will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 1:30 pm at the Los Angeles National Cemetery Pavilion, 950 South Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049. Please arrive on time as Full Military Honors will be observed. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to UCSF Pediatric Cancer Unit, St. Judes, or any other Childhood Cancer Organization in Lawrence B. Nelson's name.
