Lawrence Parrott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2025.
Lawrence passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Venice, Florida, after a courageous battle with dementia. His family meant the world to him, and they often gathered around the country to celebrate life's milestones together.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy, of Venice, Florida, and his beloved sister, Rachel White, of Santa Barbara, California. He also leaves behind his two sons, Jeff, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bill (Jim Docter), of Palm City, Florida; as well as his sister-in-law, Pam Parrott, of Russiaville, Indiana.

In addition, he is survived by his stepsons, Scott Schwartz (Regina), of Venice, Florida, and Greg Schwartz, of Delphi, Indiana.

His grandchildren include Devon Schwartz and Shelby Schwartz, great-grandson Gavin Buckles and three great granddaughters, Jaelyn, Emma and Grace.

Lawrence is also survived by his nephews and niece: Jim Parrott, Steve Parrott, and Brad Parrott, all of Kokomo, Indiana; and Andy White and Roxanne White Lundgaard, both of Santa Barbara, California.

His grand-nieces and grand-nephews include Lexie Parrott, Leah Parrott, Kiah Parrott, Karson Parrott, Nolan Lundgaard, Gwen Lundgaard, Eva Lundgaard, Abby White and Aaron White.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Lee (Buck) Parrott and Theodora Marie McConnell Parrott; his brothers, Walter Parrott and Ted Parrott; sister-in-law, Marge Parrott, of Kokomo; and brother-in-law, Ron White, of California. A grand-daughter Meagan Hughes and grand-niece, Rachel Lynn Parrott, also preceded him in death.

Lawrence's early life included working with his father at the Marathon gas station in the 1950s at the corner of Kennedy and Morgan Streets in Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1958 and went on to attend the University of Maryland for a year. During that time, he worked in a greenhouse and delivered African violets to the White House for First Lady Mamie Eisenhower.

He began his professional career as a truck driver, initially with the Obermeyer family and later with larger over-the-road companies. This work laid the foundation for his leadership in organized labor. Lawrence went on to serve as a Business Agent and later President of Teamsters Union Local 543, serving members in Kokomo and Lafayette. He also served as President of the Indiana Conference of Teamsters in Indianapolis.

He retired at the age of 52 and moved to Venice, Florida with Nancy. After golfing and boating for a few years, they founded Parrott Services, Inc. providing bookkeeping, accounting, and management services.

He is a member of CenterPointe Christian Church. He was baptized there in 1995 with his mother in attendance.

In recognition of his service and contributions to the state, Lawrence was honored with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award by Governor Evan Bayh.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 11:00AM at CenterPointe Church, 1100 Center Road, Venice, FL 34292.
