Lawrence "Larry" Pope, 88, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. In keeping with Larry's wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Autry Funeral Home in Frankston.

Larry was born on May 12, 1937, in Washington, DC, to Otis A. and Ruby (Trail) Pope. He grew up in Arlington VA and graduated from Washington and Lee High School (55). He went to West Virginia University where he met Sandra in the choir. He graduated with a bachelors in Agricultural Science. Larry went on to get his master's degree in Experimental Statistics from University of North Carolina. He followed in his father's footsteps in a career with the US Dept of Agriculture. Larry was drafted into the Army, served two years active duty then returned to the USDA. He was an active member of USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) where he enjoyed lifelong friendships. On retirement he worked with USAID and taught statistics for crop sampling & forecasting in Egypt and Morocco. Larry loved to teach. He enjoyed "moonlighting" as an adjunct professor throughout his career at the Graduate School USDA 74, University Central Florida 85, Northern Virginia Community College 96.

Larry and his wife Sandra spent their summers in Fort Seybert, West Virginia. Larry was a member of Living Faith Church in Franklin, WV. They were both active with the Fort Seybert Heritage Education Association (FSHEA). Larry assisted Sandra with the Cemetery Identification and Preservation Project in Pendleton County and her books on the Pope and Cowger Genealogies. In 2019 they moved to Texas full time. Larry was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. There he and Sandra enjoyed singing in the choir.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Pope; sister, Irene Pope Michael: nephew, Derrek A. Emmerson PhD: and nephew, Kevin J. Earp JD

Left to cherish Larry's memory are his son, Steven Pope and wife, Leigh, of Ohio; daughter, Cynthia Adams and husband, Kenneth, of Frankston; and son, Christopher Pope and wife, Becky, of New Zealand; sister, Janet Emerson and husband, Derrel, of Georgia; sister-in-law, Sally Niezgoda and husband, Gary, of West Virginia; sister-in-law, Bonnie Snyder Earp, of Virginia; grandchildren, Rachael, Lianna, Emma-Leigh, Catherine, Marian, Taylor, Kennie, Zachery, Brianna, and Caleb.

Rather than customary condolences, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
