Larry was one of the greatest human beings I have known. He was also one of the kindest and most compassionate souls I have ever encountered. Our projects together were a blessing to me. I will forever recall Larry's smile and the two words he liked to say most, "Thanks friend".

Oh my God! I just heard of his death! What a wonderful man! A wonderful great man. He helped me with some issues, he didn't care if I could afford him or not he was there and helped me. One of the best individuals I have ever known. I was blessed to have known him. There are not enough good words to say about this truly wonderful person. God bless this man!

Molly and family. I was so sad when I heard of Larry's passing. I just found this website so I could read the obit. It is so true, that he made anyone he met feel like family. I loved knowing him and meeting the girls and seeing you again Molly while Larry was in DC. He left quite a legacy.
I hope you are all doing well, I know how much you must miss him. That unfortunately is what happens when we lose someone who was so loved and admired.
God bless and keep all of you.

Molly and family, Michelle and I are so sad for your loss. Larry was truly a great man and a compassionate human being, who left this earth a better place than he found it. I am greatly indebted to Larry for his guidance.

Molly, I have just learned about Larry. It is hard to believe - I remember going to your wedding. My, where does the time go?
I have been in Sarasota, Fl since 1999. I don't have an address to send a card, so I hope you see this. I wish you and your family peace at this difficult time. Larry was the best - professionally and personally and leaves a remarkable legacy that you can be proud of. Love always, Mary (Drew) Blakemore

Just learned of Larry's passing after a long bout with cancer. I first met him when I joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at the U. of Iowa back in 1954 and stayed friends ever since. My hometown was Santa Barbara and we often got together when he came out to visit, linking up together again when he and Molly moved there in 2000. He had many favorite eating haunts around town and loved sharing them with my wife and I whenever we came to S.B. I last saw him when he came down to Apple Valley to visit for a day or two, but we kept in frequent contact afterwards through calls to Des Moines and S. B.
Pat and I miss you, old buddy.

Just now read Sunday's Register and learned of Larry's death. I was a member of the law school class of '58 and followed Larry to Des Moines after our graduation for a little while. While our political views were not the same, he was an honest hard working AG, and a credit to our profession. The entire class, reunioning again in September, will miss his humor, energy, and good will toward all. Rest in peace.

Friends since High School. My roommate at Creighton 1952-53, my freshman year and his second year before he transferred to Iowa Law School. One of a kind. Rest in Peace, Roomie! Jim Caterine

I grew up next door to Larry in Des Moines, IA. We shopped at his parent's grocery store across the street. I last visited with Larry when he was AG for the State of Iowa. Larry and his family were real class acts. May he rest in peace.

Many memories of how Larry touched the lives of my family from my brother Alan Abright, who considered Larry one of his best friends, to my sister Sharon, who considered him a wonderful friend. Lucile, now 105, always loved talking to Larry and using his advise. Too many to mention, a special person in lots of lives. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
