Lawrence Scheurich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2025.
Lawrence Edward Scheurich, aged 80 years, passed away peacefully at home in Odenville, Alabama on June 19, 2025. He departed this life after a long illness in which his wife Mary Jo was his unfailing caregiver. Born on May 21, 1945, the only child of Norris and Madelyn Scheurich, Larry lived most of his life in Lexington, Kentucky before retiring to southwestern Florida. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and an MBA. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from the University of Kentucky where he was a budget analyst for many years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jo, his children Neil Scheurich (Julia Marie Adams-Scheurich) and Sarah Scheurich-Payne (J.D. Payne) and his five grandchildren Julia Scheurich, Hannah Payne, Ethan Scheurich, Rachel Payne, and Joel Payne.

Larry lived a steady and quiet life of deep devotion to his wife and other close family. In vigorous adulthood he was an active handyman and gardener who spent countless free hours making the family home both intact and beautiful. A great reader with passions for history, science and detective fiction, he loved the wonders of the natural world and enjoyed many travel adventures with his family. And he was a perennial fan of his beloved Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds. A gentle and compassionate person by nature, Larry found his way late in life to a Christian faith.

A small family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Dad, we love you and will miss you so much.
