Dear Lily, Calvin, Michelle and Erin,

We are deeply saddened by your loss. Larry and I first became friends while working at the U of R, and strange as it may be, became better friends once we both left. He was a kind, warm and brilliant man with a heart of gold. He was always upbeat and engaging, always ready to listen. We are proud to have had Larry as a friend and will sorely miss him. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

With sincere condolences,

Elaine and Sid Strilaeff

Words are hard to come by, as Larry was still so vital and strong. We had him in our lives for only a section of time, but we will always remember him as a fun loving, happy and kind man. Hugs, warmth and love to his family and close friends. Love, Leanne, Lorraine and Bob Scott

I entered university as a mature student, Dr Symes provided me guidance and support throughout my education and I'll always remember the smile and wink he gave me as he passed me my degree!

I was shocked to of Larry's passing. He was a lovely man to have worked with for many years at the University of Regina. He was extremely thoughtful and I will never forget his kindness the night I heard my dad had taken a turn for the worse and I needed to get home from a retreat we were all attending in Yorkton. He insisted upon driving me back to Regina, in my car, and then he took the bus back to the meeting the next morning. He proudly shared the activities of his children. And he loved his farm time. I hope all of you have wonderful memories to warm your hearts at this time of grief that came upon you so suddenly. With the most sincere sympathy,

Words are very hard to express at this time how much Dr. Symes meant to me as a young computer science student. An inspiration, mentor and friend. He quickly became "Larry" during my employment at the U of R, even being brave enough to go an a local flight over Regina as my passenger in a two-seater Piper. Although we did not keep in touch over the past 30 years, he has been spoken of often. Condolences to his family. A very special man adds another twinkle in the night sky.
