Lawrence Weel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2025.
Lawrence (Larry) Allen Weel, born on February 10th, 1948, in Lansing, MI passed away peacefully after waging a tough fight with cancer on June 29, 2025, in Phoenix, AZ at the age of 77.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Ruby Weel. He is survived by his spouse Donna Weel, son Daryl Weel, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Michelle (Woods) Weel, step-daughter Stacie Jacobs, brother Ron Weel, sister Sue Weel, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Larry was born in Lansing, MI. He spent his youth in Watertown, WI area, graduating from Juneau High School in 1966. After high school, Larry did various jobs with the Milwaukee Road Railroad, drove a semi-truck, and became a draftsman at Brandt Automatic Cashier. He later moved to Phoenix, AZ where he spent his remaining 56 years working as a Draftsman for UHAUL, and ITT Cannon Systems.

Over his lifetime, Larry never lost his passion for trains. He would visit museums, railroad exhibits, and stop and look at locomotives past and present. Most recently he went on a train ride tour in the Verde Vally. One of his accomplishments was building an "N" Gauge railroad layout based on the time frame and location of his youth.

Larry played high school football, passing his experiences on to his sons and even coaching them in their youth. Even though he lived in Phoenix for most of his life he did remain an avid Green Bay Packers fan following their progress with his brother Ron.

Anybody that knew Larry knew his love for good food. He never left a plate unfinished and always had room for dessert. In Larry's last few weeks, he ate to his heart's content- all his favorites, fried chicken, pizza, and steak. He ate it all, and enjoyed every bite.

Visitation is from 10 am to 11:00 am Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301. ( 623-937-9297 )

Burial and final farewell will be held 11 am to 11:30 am Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at West Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6450 W Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ.85301.
