I love you

Larry Wolf as God in 'Castle of Perseverance', theater work directed by Stephanie Skura, 1977

Larry was one of my oldest friends. He performed in several of my earliest performance works, and was a regular actor in most of Robert Downey(Sr)'s films. As both friend & performance collaborator, the relationship was, without exception, smooth, fun and profound all at once.
I used to visit him on the film set of 'Pound' ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066234 )
in which he played a Mexican hairless dog about to be euthanized, & had a scene with Robert Downey Jr, age 5, playing a puppy in Jr's first ever speaking film role.
It's nothing but understatement to say that Larry was an extraordinary actor and person. There's nobody even remotely like him -- and he was (this 'was' is difficult to write) full of heart, funny as hell, a staunch and loyal friend for decades.
Like Mike Nichols, Larry had alopecia & lost all the hair on his body shortly after high school. He embraced this unusual & striking look. He played both God & the Devil in 'Castle of Perseverance', a work I created in 1977 based on the earliest script written in the English language. In this photo, though he's playing God, he looks like an angel -- which is what he is now.
I somehow thought he would never die.
Larry was capable of infinite love. He was completely and utterly in love with his wife Nancy & she with him.
I'll be grieving his loss for a long time, and send his wife Nancy & sons Adam & Peter loads of warmth during this time of heartbreak.

Larry introduced me to the wild and funny and tender and musical aspects of NYC when I was a naive 20-something, newly living in the city and he was the wise guy something or other. What a lucky happenstance! He helped me find my way ... Including all the joy along the way! I am forever grateful and eternally saddened that he is no longer singing. No longer pontificating. No longer laughing. No longer holding me in his large and fussy heart. I am so sorry for his family's loss and sending love to Nancy and their boys ... oxox Patricia Horn O'Brien
