My mom and I really enjoyed getting to know Layla better in the last couple years. Through Lorena, I came to appreciate Layla's great faith and intense love for her children. She is a Catholic role model for me. You are all in my prayers and you have all my sympathy during this time.

Ed, Paul, and Lorena, It was my privilege to work along with Layla. She was a faith-filled, inspiring teacher, who was a dear friend as well. We shared many pleasant moments in our staffroom, and I truly looked forward to seeing her each day. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Well Ed, it's been 2 weeks and the flood of support is probably easing up a bit. Now comes the equally hard part of getting on with the next chapter. I hope you know your family is with you at all times and available to talk, visit whatever!!! Thoughts go out to Paul and Lorena too!!!

Dear Ed, Paul, Lorena, Mrs. Camerini, Rita, Roy, Cristina, Mathew, Sabrina, Rob, William and Benjamin,

It came as such a surprise to hear of Layla's death, as we did not know she was not well. It deeply saddened our hearts to hear the news, and we sense the journey may have been a difficult one. With my mother recently passing before Christmas, it made me realize that nothing can fully prepare our hearts for that last goodbye with our loved ones. But God is so good. He promised to comfort us. “Blessed are those that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 (KJV). May you feel His comfort through the loving prayers, compassion, caring, and sympathy of family and friends.
Praying that you will feel God's presence through your grief, through your happy memories, and as you slowly adjust and continue on.
With our heartfelt love,

Angelo Campanile

Dear Ed, Paul and Lorena, I am still deeply touched that I was asked to be a pallbearer. When I left St. James, I felt as if I was leaving home. My heart broke that summer. I knew I was going to miss her professionalism and kindness. Layla told me she happy for me and sad at the same time. Layla made me feel as if I was one of her own, in the way she spoke to me, watched out for me, and cared for any issues that I may have had at home or at work. She was my Zia. My eyes continue to swell when I think about her, but the many wonderful and extremely funny stories we've shared is what I hold onto. She is someone that I strive to emulate. I miss you, Layla, but I will never forget you. God Bless.

Uncle Eddie, Paul and Lorena, since I heard about the passing of Aunt Layla all I keep thinking about is the Lord gives and the Lord takes away and all of it is for His glory. Its hard to think the Lord would take someone like her home but I find great comfort that He is in control and will help us get through this tough time! Our thoughts are with you all, and my prayer is that, in the Lord you will find peace, strength, and comfort in the days to come! She was a great lady, she always had the right words to say at the right time!! She will be greatly missed!! Love and miss you all greatly!!
