Lee DeVoid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2023.
Lee A. DeVoid, woke up each morning , checked the obituary section in the local paper, made sure his name wasn't in it, and went about his day. Today he would find his name. Forever the comedian this is how he wished to start his obituary.

Until his peaceful passing, on August 20, 2023 Lee spent his 87 years full of love, laughter and "pop jokes." When he passed, it was peacefully on August 20, 2023, in the Oncology Unit at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA., holding the hands of his daughter and grandson.

Lee was born on July 29, 1936, in Keene, NH, and was son of the late Melvin and Christine (Bent) DeVoid. He grew up in Berlin, CT and graduated from Berlin High School with the Class of 1954. After graduation, Lee served our country with the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, he lived in Old Lyme, Ct., where many of his "stories" came from. Soon, he became a milk man for Brockhall Dairy, in Old Saybrook, Ct., where he met and married the mother of his three daughters. Together they raised their girls in Westbrook Ct. Lee became a foreman at Pratt, Read & Company in Ivoryton Ct, until the company closed in the late 80s. He then worked until his retirement at Connecticut Yankee Nuclear Power Plant as a security supervisor.

Later in life, Lee treasured the time and company he spent with his companion, Raylene. He valued their time in Florida and the friends they had there, their Friday lunches at Lenny & Joes and Raylene's family that welcomed him into their lives.

As an avid sports fan Lee spent his last years watching "his" Uconn Huskies and the Boston Red Sox. He also loved the game of cribbage and was grateful for his daily matches.

Lee adored his daughters and was most proud of all of his grandchildren. He impacted multiple lives, was an extra dad and grandpa to many and was known as "Pop" by all. He is already deeply missed by his brother Ralph DeVoid of Kittery Me., and his daughters, Lisbeth Wahl of Chester,Ct., Laura-Lee (Carlos) Santibanez of Westbrook, and Sheila Downey (Jess) of Ashford, Ct. Also missing Pop are his grandchildren, Kristin Lindahl (Christina), Brandon (Marie) Lindahl, Courtney (Tony) Perkins, Amanda Hooper, Kyrsten Hooper (Hector) , David Fernandes, Jacob Fernandes and Patrick Downey. Also, his Great grand children Alexis, Rylee, Aylah,Camden, Syndey, Hayden, Derek and Kennedy. Lee also leaves behind the love of his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lees wishes were to be brought "home" to Keene, NH and be placed with his mother in his final resting place. A small private graveside service and celebration of his well loved life will take place in Ocotber.

His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Oncology Staff of UMass Memorial Medical Hospital and the Cancer Center Team. Especially his Nurse Pam, who he grew to love like family.
