Lee Hubbard Crowe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2024.
March 22, 1950 - January 20, 2021 Lee Hubbard Crowe, devoted mother, supportive sister, loyal friend, wine enthusiast, talented artist and writer, peacefully left our world on January 20, 2021 from Early Onset Alzheimers surrounded by loved ones. Lee was born in Glen Cove, New York, and as a young girl, her parents decided to leave Long Island and set off on an adventurous road trip to the West Coast with their three kids in tow. They settled in Glendale, California, where her father custom built a home for their family of five, including her two brothers Greg and Brad, with everything they could ever want, even a nearly Olympic sized swimming pool. This is where Lee became a California girl.

After college, she spent her time in the air flying for Continental, a career she chose so that she could do the same thing as her childhood best friend, Jeanne. Jeanne eventually became godmother to her children and was there to love and support Lee until the very end.

Lee was so committed to her children, Katherine and Sean, she made choices based on her love for them so that they always remained close. She even kept her married name after her divorce so that she would have the same last name as her kids.

One day, while driving her two children home from school in the early 90s, a conversation about President Clinton made her daughter Katherine exclaim, "Mom, you should be President! You could do better than him!" And Sean enthusiastically agreed. Lee laughed it off, but her two children persisted day after day, and that gave her the idea for her script "President Mom." Lee was a very talented writer, penning two entertaining and heartfelt scripts, "President Mom" and "T. Ruth and Glory." Lee's stories were inspired by her very own life experiences.

A trailblazer in her own right, Lee saw that a woman could become President over 20 years before the first woman actually ran for office, who we all know as Hillary Clinton, ironically the other half of President Clinton whose name started the conversation that inspired her script. Lee got very close to selling that script, but again, her commitment to her children made her choose to hold out for someone who didn't want to take the "Story By" credit. Many people who wanted to help her wanted that credit and she knew it was her children who deserved that title. She held strong on that decision.

Lee also discovered artists across the United States who handmade dolls. After speaking to these women, she came to find they all had one thing in common... they had lost children and their work healed their broken hearts. Lee also lost her first born and identified deeply with these artists because her art too came from her children. With much courage, she set out to make a documentary featuring these creative females and their stories that she eventually titled "The Art of the Dollmaker," which received national distribution. She made sure her children had credits in that project as well.

In addition to these accomplishments, Lee had a coveted role in the Sunday Show at the Groundlings, wrote comedy for Premier Radio Networks, penned lyrics to songs and poems, and donated her time to nearly every school her children attended.

Lee is survived by her two children, Katherine Grace, who she inspired to be a creative independent woman, and Sean Patrick, who she supported in all of his endeavors, and her brothers Greg and Brad. She would like for you to imagine her in a better world where she will be waiting for you sipping white wine and laughing passionately at every joke as you remember her always doing.

I first met Lee in the mid 70s when we were both flight attendants for Continental Airlines.
We found out we lived just down the road from each other in Malibu.
Then we found out we were both pregnant!
Not for one minute did she make me feel uncomfortable that
I ended up with a baby and she did not.
At that horrific time, she showed me such grace, generosity, and
True friendship.
Each of our lives took such twists and turns, but our friendship thrived.

There was a group of flight attendants that gathered even after we all retired. Lee was there with her humorous stories and always looking gorgeous!
We all continue to meet to this day and make a loving toast to our special Friend, Lee,

I loved everything about my Dear Friend! Her quirkiness, her humor and her extraordinary artistic talent.
Her theatrical take on everything always had me laughing.
A giant plus for me was meeting her Friends and Family
whom I still see and Love to this day.
