I am so sorry to have lost touch with Pete over the last three years. He was truly a "remarkable" human being. When Ben and I stopped to visit him on a trip up to Huntsville in 2004, I loved talking with him and he & Ben so enjoyed talking about McCallie & Baylor and all the people they both knew from Tampa. My deepest sympathy goes to all of his family. I'll never forget when I was 13 & my dad, Pete's uncle, sent me to B'minham for a vacation and I got to spend some of the time with he and his family. I had the time of my life and it is one of my most cherished memories. His passing is a great loss to so many. We are going to McCallie in Oct. for Ben's 55th, and will be going to the football game of McCallie vs Baylor, I will give a special toast in rememberance of Pete.

Although I never met Mr. McGriff I do know those who follow in his footsteps. May those footsteps you walk in remind you of the great man who came before you. Tread with the same courage, tenacity and generosity that those who knew Mr McGriff say were his life traits.

All my prayers and sympathy with the family of Pete McGriff. He was a lordly juiior when I was a freshman, and I was lucky to follow him in many of Sewanee's honorary student organizations. Knowing his funeral service will be in St. Mary's brings back to mind a former rector, R. Bland Mitchell, who was my bishop and ordained me deacon and priest. Pete was a true son of Sewanee. May his name be long remembered for all he did for his Alma Mater.Again, prayers and blessings to all his family and friends.
