May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
And may the vistas soon to greet you,
Bring lightness to your pack.

Lee, it's been two years since we lost our most precious light in our lives. We will plant a tree for you and take a hike today.

You are the best son a father could ever have. I miss you so much and still love you as much as ever.

Mark and Kathleen, I am teaching a sixth grade class, the first one since I had Lee. We recently did the survey to make circle graphs, and the memories of Lee's came flooding back, and I had to laugh. While the kids usually chose survey questions such as "What is your favorite soda" or video game or pets or book genre, Lee asked, "What is your favorite ancient civilization?" I will always remember that with tremendous affection. I am praying for you during these difficult holidays. God bless.

I had Lee for an English and a Debate class at Coronado. Didn't really get to know him well, but I always admired how brilliant he was. I could've seen him as our future president. My prayers go out to him and his family.

Dear Kathleen and Mark,
Please know that Lee is always in my prayers. I also dedicated four church services to him and the last one was on his anniversary weekend. I thought of him while I was in Alaska and remembered how much he loved that beautiful place. Take care and may God be with you.

Nor will you be tomorrow

For warmest thoughts of those who care
Are with you in your sorrow

And may it comfort you to know
Your loved ones are thought of too

By everyone who shares the loss
Of one so dear to you."

Mark and Kathleen,

I'm devastated to learn of your loss. I met Lee at a bar function when he was about 10 or 12, and still remember how impressed I was with his fine manners and eloquence for such a young man. My prayers are with you as you grieve his loss and cherish the joy he brought to your lives.

With sincerest sympathies,

Kathleen and Mark,
In our profession, we trade in words, but they are poor tools for explaining the depth of the effect that the loss of a child will have on the rest of your life. Laura and I are just so sorry for your loss and will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Please know that you can call on us anytime if you think we can be of assistance.

Kathleen, I am in Boston and only when I arrived here did I hear about your son. You have been on my mind continuously since I heard about Lee. I am so very very sorry. My maternal grandmother lost both of her children (my mother and my aunt) and I remember my grandmother explaining to me that losing a child is the worst pain a person can endure. You are in and will remain in my thoughts. Sarah Brown

Mark, I only just learned about Lee yesterday, June 16, 2014. How does one give such immense sorrow words? My heart is broken for you and Kathleen and your folks. Never has a child been more loved than Lee; and never have I seen a child respond with such sweet humility, respect and love in return. IT WAS A PRIVILEGE to get to interact with Lee at the office for so many years. He was a precious child to be around. I pray that your memories will find a quiet place where they can be of some comfort to you. You, Kathleen and your Mom and Dad are in my heart and prayers.

June 11, 2014

Mark & Kathleen,
Please accept our sincerest condolences for the loss of your son. To come up with the appropriate words to convey our sympathy at such a time is more difficult than any legal brief ever written. The fact that we had just returned from our youngest's college graduation, and that I was about to embark on a backpacking trip to Colorado with two of our boys when this horrible news was related to us, only makes the news more difficult to bear. While we did not know Lee, his love of the outdoors and travel is similar to our own boys' experiences. Your grief is unimaginable. Please know that you are not alone, and your friends and colleagues are there for you.

Lee Walker, one of the most intellectual people I've ever met, and one of the best piano players I ever had the privilege of playing with. His time spent playing with the Pit in the CHS Marching Band is still something I remember him being an important part of. Every conversation with him was always significant, no matter how small of large the subject at hand was. All I hope for was that he enjoyed his life up until his last breath, and that he had no regrets. He was, to me, someone unique and gifted. I am so sorry for your loss Kathleen and Mark. Your son was a good friend, and I will miss him.

Lee is the type of person who always makes me want to be better. A better student—his ideas were profound. A better steward of the earth—his passion for nature really shined. And now, most of all, a better friend. I think everyone that Lee touched will make an effort to be more considerate and more supportive of those they care about. I hope you are eventually able to find peace knowing that Lee really did make a difference.
