Leelyn REESE-MAIN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2017.
REESE-MAIN, Leelyn Shirley

79, died Monday, April 24, 2017 at her home in St. Petersburg FL. From her Christmas birth in 1937 until her death Monday she believed that the magic and mysteries of the spiritual world could be discerned through love and friendship in this life. She was born at Magee Hospital in Pittsburg PA to Leland Stanford Reese and Ethelyn Shirley Reese. In 1950 she moved to Detroit where she subsequently married her Cooley High School sweetheart, Dr. Charles A Main Jr. Leelyn left Michigan State University to help make ends meet and began working at Powell Photographic Studios in Detroit while "Chuck" attended Medical school. Her primary focus at this time in her life was her four children, Timothy, Kevin, Charlie, and Shannon. Leelyn enjoyed camping and traveling the country with her "chicks" as she was fond of calling her children in tow. When the youngest was out of primary school, Leelyn went back to college and earned her Bachelors degree in Political Science from Oakland University. Besides her children and family she had a lifelong passion for playing and teaching bridge where she could showcase her always well manicured nails and sharp mental agility. After her children had all gone on to college she and Chuck were divorced and she moved to Florida to start another chapter in her life. She sold real estate, earned her Masters degree in Social Work which she applied to her work in Alzheimers patient daycare. Eventually she was able to combine two passions, travel and bridge, by teaching bridge on cruise ships often accompanied by her longtime boyfriend and surviving bridge partner, Bill Attebury. Her surviving sister, JoAnne; daughters-in-law, Katherine and Donna; son-in-law, Roland; friends; and 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Timothy, Brian, Haley, Cody, Chaz, Kelvin, Moselle, Leland, Carson, Cooper; and great-grandchild, K.J. will all miss her wisdom and laughter as well as her wonderful Birthday Cards which she individually picked out months and sometimes years in advance. She signed every card "Angels Watch" to remind us all that our actions and our life, was ours to choose, but to always remember we are surrounded by Angels to guide us in our journey. We will be celebrating the life of one of those Angels Saturday, April 29, at 2 pm at The Vinoy Hotel 501 Fifth Avenue North East, St. Petersburg FL 33701. Where do you start to explain how someone affected your life in the way (Lee) Leelyn did? We became fast friends, but really more like family; that is how she made Ray and I feel along with the rest of the Main gang.

I know she's drinkin' wine in heaven, just like the many times at our house; the phone rang, Lee (and most of the time Bill) are coming over. Get the wine breathing we're going to solve world problems. Really we were saving ourselves and what a great ride with an intellectual agent of people.

We'll see you in heaven. Go easy on St. Peter and dance and revel in the company of all of those who have gone before us.

You always said you would have loved to have met my mom in our many conversations(her passing predated our relationship), I think you're both looking down and having a ball. You always knew how to pick me up and always had the right words of wisdom.

Love you always,

Angels Watch

Mark and Ray

I met Lee over two years ago and she always had a good word or some advice that would help me with certain things in my life. Lee's face lit up when I had this big smile while enjoying one her key lime pies when we ate at her place or Bill's. Will miss you Lee and I would like to believe you are in a better place.

I will always have fond memories of Lee. I met my friend Carolyn through Lee. She was a good friend to both of us.

Under that kind exterior was a woman who took risks for people that many people would never take or even contemplate. Lee also took a risk when she matched me up with Bill Attebury who has been a beloved mentor for years.

Leelyn now has her beautiful full feather wings to watch over us......she was a very special lady and now she is the Angel Watching. Her spirit and heart light lives on in each of our memories. Light for the Journey - Courage for the Soul,

Leelyn was one of Dad, Robert H. Blinn, Jr.'s, favorite cousins. (He was Nedra's son, and passed away Feb. 21 of this year in DC.). Leelyn was loving and always interested in all of us Blinn kids. Thanks for posting all the great pictures. May your love for one another make many new memories in her honor.

Lee was my teacher, friend and travel companion. She started me teaching bridge and changed my life for the better. I will miss her very much as I know you will.

Roland, Shannon and Leland my thoughts and prayers are with you all. She sounds like my kind of gal wish I would have known her. Peace and Blessings.
