A MELODY IN OUR HEART
by Raven O. Jones
Beloved and cherished
Til' the sun and the moon align as one
Our love for him will never fade away
Time and time again we struggle to absorb the fact that he is gone
Always and forever in our memory
A sweet, sweet melody in our hearts
He left an impression of spirituality and great knowledge in our mind's
People say you never know what you've got until its gone;
We know what we had
It just became more apparent to us
when we lost the one we loved and cherished
He was the melody in our hearts

A Tribute to Our Brother
We feel blessed to have had you as a brother. You inspired us in ways that you may not have known.
Your quest for knowledge taught us the importance of striving to be all that God created us to be.
Your strong will to hold on to your convictions taught us to be true to what we believe.
You taught us the importance of keeping our word. We could always count on you for honoring yours. We never had to wonder about what you thought, because you always expressed how you felt.
You taught us how to laugh. You had such a great sense of humor.
Because of your love for reading you always had something valuable to share with us. Even though you have read many books, you knew that the Holy Bible is the most important book that anyone can read. On many occasions, you would call us and share a Bible verse with us and sometimes a sermon (smile).
We will miss you greatly, but we have peace in knowing that you are now with the Lord. You told us that your faith in God was strong and you were ready to depart from this life. So good-bye for now. We’ll see you later.
Your Siblings,
Earnest, Carolyn, Cenas, Olivia, Florida and Thelma

What is a father’s great task?
To bring himself and his family to God.
That task requires self-discipline, wisdom, patience, strength and understanding.
Small minds and hearts of children are not easy to guide; adolescent minds and hearts are bewildered and battered at times;
The minds and hearts of young adults are often lost
Or too embarrassed to seek guidance.
For them a father is a steady example of perseverance and good,
A beacon for wondering and wandering minds.
How could a father’s task be done
Unless he remembered his children were created
By a loving, wise and merciful God
Who is with his children – and with him?

A TRIBUTE TO OUR FATHER-IN-LAW
We Will Always Remember You
Our father-in-law passed away..... He was very important to us and more so to our
husbands. When I asked to do a tribute, I thought long and hard about how to do that. But, as I began to write, I realized that mere words could never do justice to the incredible man that we grew to love like one of our own parents.
With seventy-four years of life under his belt, even as his body was getting weak, his mind remained sharp. We now know in the days ahead as we try to accept living without him that we must remember his teachings and recall the gifts he gave to each of us - gifts of life, love, friendship, wisdom, language, history and happiness.
We will always remember you and know that you will always be watching over us
Even though you reached the phenomenal age of seventy-four
We all wish that you were still alive to teach us more
We will always remember that you were a good man,
And with your salvation in tact your reward in heaven should be in hand
We will always remember you and know that you will always be watching over us
It was wonderful in 1933 when a baby boy was born and that baby was you.
On the 30th of March, 2008 God reminded us that you were his too
We did not know that it would be your final day
Just wait for us, Popo, we all are on our way
We will always remember you and know that you will always be watching over us
You were seventy-four
Seven - we know that you are in heaven
Four - we know that you made it through heaven's door
Three girls and three boys always a perfect mix
Thank you for welcoming us to join your happiness
We will always remember you and know that you will always be watching over us
Popo, until we meet again, by the grace of God,
May He hold you in the palm of his hands
Respectfully and lovingly
Your Daughters-in-law
Cheryl, Brenda and Betty

A TRIBUTE TO OUR GRANDFATHER
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden underfoot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth the light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:13 - 16, KJV
To know a man of great intelligence and poise is a great thing, but to have that man as our grandfather was simply a blessing. Our Grandfather was a dynamic speaker, motivator, educator, spiritual leader and an even better grandpa. “Popo” as we affectionately called him will truly be missed. “Popo” taught many people throughout the years, but little did he know just how much he impacted the lives of his own grandchildren. He taught us at an early age to enjoy the simple things in life and to never settle for the ordinary even though he believed in academic excellence and high standards. He taught us that God has a special place for each one of us and that we determine our path through hard work and determination. These are the life lessons that our grandpa gave to us. Although he is physically gone, his presence is still strong through all of the great things that he has left with us. So, from us to you, “Popo”, we love you and you will be greatly missed. Whenever we start to feel alone, we can always recall the great things that you accomplished and all of those important life lessons that could only come from a great grandpa like you.
Love always,
Your Grandchildren

A TRIBUTE TO OUR FATHER
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth – For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come; nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 1:16; 8:38, 39
Provider, Counselor, Leader, Minister, Neighbor, Scholar, Teacher, Visionary, Husband, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend. His presence was constant and he was dependable, steadfast and faithful in his responsibilities. Our father loved books; he loved progressive thoughts, sports, history, news and world events. Most of all, he loved his wife and was “proud of all of his children and grandchildren.” He affectionately called our mother Thelma and always bragged about how he courted her for six years. Each one of us is proud to be the son or daughter of Lemuel Jones. He challenged us and tested us, and yet always showed his love. He provided the best for us, talked to us, made us laugh and was always there when we needed him the most.
We are here today not only to grieve and mourn, but also to celebrate his life and to say, “Daddy, we will see you again!” We thank you for allowing our mother to be home to love, nurture and train us. We thank you for every sacrifice that you made for the six of us, the grandchildren and the entire family. We cherish every word of wisdom, every experience and your love. We will continue your legacy throughout our lives and future generations.
Daddy, we know that you were ready to be offered and the time of your departure came. You fought a good fight, you finished your course and you kept the faith. For the rest of eternity, God has laid a crown of righteous upon your head. We will meet you on the other side of the river where every day will be Sunday and the Sabbath will have no end.
Love Always,
Your Children

OBITUARY
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. John 14: 1- 4 KJV

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR WIFE
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life?
Of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1
Lemuel and I were blessed in our fifty-six years with six wonderful children and twelve beautiful grandchildren. My husband was an excellent father. I miss him already, but I will celebrate his life for the rest of my own. Sleep on, Lem, and take your rest. I will meet you on the other side
Love,
Thelma
SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

It has been one year since God called you home. Even though it seems like yesterday, your memory has kept us strong. Your wisdom has taught us to fly higher than an eagle. For you were our hero, and we can only thank God. For you are still "the wind beneath our wings".
We love and miss you

Daddy, it's been six months today since you left us!!!! Since you left me!!!!! The pain and loss felt today is the same that I felt on March 30th. I trust God wil get me through this loss and I know you would want me to go on but it's not easy. Through all that life has dealt me nothing has prepared me for this hurt that just won't go away. Everyone says to release you, to give it time but I'm constantly remined day in and day out of everything about you!!! I miss talking to you, hearing your voice, your laughter, your jokes!!! My brothers and sisters have always said I was just like you, and now I see you in me everyday, sometimes it makes me smile and and other times it makes me sad. When they would say that, your question to me was, "is that true" ? Well, Daddy, it's true!!!! I watch more CNN then I ever did!!!, but it breaks my heart when I can't call you the way you call me with the news!!! I know that you are safe in God's arms, your spirit has revealed that you are okay, but I want you to know that I love you, I miss you. I will forever keep the memories, your wisdom, your knowlege, your teaching, everything about you in my heart. I see so much of you in all of us, in our children, and mama want let us forget you!!!!!
Love Always, Jaunice

Daddy - On August 13, 2008 you would have been 75 years old, however God had a better plan for you on August 30, 2008. You are in a better place and I know you are smiling down on us. I miss you being silly on the phone when I call, telling me about current news events and calling me to watch favorite shows on television. These were all fine memories, however the one thing that stands out the most is your wisdom. I am so blessed that my children had a chance to know you for themselves and have personal memories. Lauryn often says she will pray for you and will ask others to do the same for you and Gram.

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

To: Cousin Thelma, Jaunice and all of our Cousins,
From: Faye, Donna, Michael, JoAnn and Joey,
Several weeks have passed and today, we just wanted you to know that we are still thinking of you and praying for you all. Enclosed is a Tribute that I had written to you in honor of your Husband, Dad Grandfather and Brother. Today, I pray that as you read it…you will smile.
We are very sorry to learn of your loss. We pray that the Almighty God will give you the comfort, strength and guidance that you need at this time. We pray that each of you will call on Him and that He will grant you what you will need in days and months to come. We pray that each of you will dwell on your individual fond memories of your husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
One fond memory that I have of Cousin Lem was how he always stressed the importance of having a "good education." I remember when I was about seven or eight and as he drove me "Across the River" for a visit with my cousins how he questioned me about what I was going be when I grew up. I remember giving him a reply, but the memory that stood out most for me was how "Proper" he was in his speech. He was the first person Black or White that I had ever heard use such "Big Words" and diction.
I am fifty-years-old now and through the years, I have always thought of your Husband and Dad as one of the first who encouraged me to get a "good education." Your Dad also provided several other first time memorable experiences for me on that day. Not only did he plant a seed in me about the importance of working hard to become educated, but as I remember, he provided me with my first long tour (from Baton Rouge to Erwinville.)
In our journey that day, I remember learning about the Mississippi River and all of the creatures in it. As he watched my facial expressions, he could see that his goal had been accomplished. At that point, he began to laugh and laugh and laugh... He was an Original!
Finally, please know that our love surrounds you and we are only a phone call or e-mail away.
Your Cousin Faye
