LENNART ANDERSON

He let me sneak into his class as an undergraduate. I am still using pretty much the same palette he taught back then. I am so honored to have known him.

A great artist and an inspiration to painters trying to maintain in their work a connection to the great art of the past while being in the present.

I studied art with Lennart Anderson at Cass Tech. And we have remained friends forever. My deepest sympathy .

I was a student of Lennart Anderson at the Arts Student League. He helped shape me in profound ways by the example he set, his understanding of the history of
art and by letting me become my own artist.
I am deeply saddened by his passing and extend my sympathy to his family .

My husband, David Lewis, studied with Lennart at Brooklyn. One weekend, Dave did some carpentry work for Lennart and in exchange, Lennart did a portrait of David. The portrait hangs in my study.
David died in 1999. Both men were amazing artists.

One of my greatest pleasures in the MFA program at Brooklyn College was to be able to work under Lennart Anderson. It was the reason for my going into to that painting program.He had a clear and wonderful way of talking about painting and sometimes even taking a brush in hand and showing his students what he meant. His influence was far reaching and true. A valued artist and lovely man.

I had the great fortune to work with Lennart for two years while I was getting my MFA at Brooklyn College and I can truthfully say that at times I still hear his voice when I am working in my studio. He taught me so much about composition and color. He inspired me to work with the human figure and to embrace narrative. I will always be in awe of his paintings and his long life of art. My deep condolences go to his family and close friends.

A wonderful painter, Lennart was a great teacher. I am proud to have studied with him;
what he taught me is inestimable.

I had the privilege of studying under Professor Anderson for two years at Brooklyn College. Not only was he a great painter but a truly great man and is missed.

Although not a student I was an admirer. His was a storied presence at ISA, Italy, and elsewhere. A visual poet. And truly an inspiration to artists.

I had the privilege of studying with Lennart at Brooklyn College. I continue to benefit from his teaching so many years later. He was a true master.

What a wonderful life he had with you as a daughter, Eliza.

He is one of a small group of great painters. He was my teacher and mentor from a distance. There is not a day in the studio that I do not think about him and what he taught me. I am very thankful to have known him.
