Leo H. Ebert, 81, of Duluth died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Viewcrest Health Center. He was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Wykoff, Minn. to Oscar and Emma Ebert. He attended Edison H.S. in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of MN with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1949. He is a veteran of WWII having served for the US Army in the Philippines and Australia. Leo married Millie Trettel on June 18, 1949, in Little Falls, Minn. He managed Lakehead Testing Laboratory, Inc. from 1949 until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, cross-country skiing, playing cribbage, reading, and traveling with family. Leo was a charter member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the OK Club. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council #6783; past president of the local sections of American Society of Civil Engineers and MN Society of Professional Engineers; served on the Duluth Board of Zoning Appeals; member of Gitche Gumme Kiwanis. He volunteered at SMDC. Leo was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Leo is survived by his wife, Millie; son, Paul (Diane) of St. Paul, Minn.; daughters, Mary (Jim Westrick) Ebert of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gloria (Jim) Stewart of Richfield, Minn., Tricia (John) Clark of White Bear Lake, Minn., Karen Nyquist of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Ewald (Janet) Ebert of Coon Rapids, Minn.; sisters, LaRoe Usher, Dolores (Emery) Nypan both of Minneapolis, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest Health Center for their compassionate care. A special thanks to Pat Damagala for her dedicated home health care help. VISITATION:4:30-7 p.m., Friday, in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home with wake prayers at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continuing 10 a.m., Saturday until the 11 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial Saturday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Bill Fournier officiating. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the St. Lawrence Building Fund.
