Gettysburg - Leo James Freidel, 75 of Gettysburg passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Gettysburg Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg with Rev. Bruce Adams officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery at Ethan, S.D. under the direction of the Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg. Visitation will be Sunday from 9:30-8:00 p.m. Leo James Freidel was born on February 5, 1928 at Dimock, South Dakota to Joseph and Rose (Bracha) Freidel. He grew up in the Dimock-Parkston area moving to Ethan in 1942. He married Alice Pierson on January 25, 1946 at Ethan where they continued to live until 1949. In 1949 they moved to Pierre where he worked for his uncle at the Gordon Stout Company until 1958 when they moved to Gettysburg and opened Freidel Music and Recreation which he later turned over to his sons. He is survived by his wife Alice Freidel of Gettysburg, 1 sister: Alzora "Tutz" Hochhalter of Rapid City, 4 children: Jerry (Barb) Freidel of Mobridge, Wendy Freidel of Gettysburg, Kerry (Sandy) Freidel of Pierre and Angela Freidel of Yankton. He has 11 grand children: Amy Borah, Joel Freidel, Aaron Freidel, Kevin Bliese, Matthew Freidel, Bradley Freidel, Amanda Freidel, Corey Niles, Ashley Niles, Jacelyn Freidel and Adrian Freidel and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers: Joseph, Lawrence, Eddie, Raymond, Donald, and Marvin and 1 sister: Mamie. Pallbearers will be: Kevin Bliese, Matthew Freidel, Bradley Freidel, Cory Niles, Joel Freidel, Aaron Freidel and Adrian Freidel. Singing will be Kerry Freidel.
