Mr. Leo T. O'Brien, formerly of Watertown, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in The Lutheran Home in Worcester. He was 84. Leo was born February 24, 1929 in Boston a son of the late John A. and Rose C. (Gallagher) O'Brien. He honorably served his country in the Army National Guard. He married Constance A. Toombs on January 9, 1955. Leo worked for the MBTA in the Carmen's Union Local 589 in Boston for over 23 years retiring in 1978. He had also worked for the Belmont Police Department as a special crossing guard for 7 years. In earlier years had worked as a machinist and cab driver. He loved his family and time spent with them. Upon retirement Leo dabbled in his fascination for electronics and even became familiar with iPhones, nooks and the Windows Tablet. He served as an assistant Boy Scout leader and enjoyed model shipbuilding and model trains. His wife, Constance O'Brien, his grandson, Matthew T. O'Brien and his sister, Marguerite O'Brien, predecease him. He leaves his children, Thomas L. O'Brien and his wife, Debora of Springfield and Patricia A. O'Brien of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren, Molly, Michelle and Thomas O'Brien; his siblings, John O'Brien of Randolph, Catherine R. Welch of Newburyport, Eleanor Anzivino of Mansfield and Marion Burns of Roslindale; also survived by nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Leo's life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, January 7th at 10 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
