Leo Richard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2011.
Lewiston - Leo N. Richard, 62, of Lewiston, passed away Monday, January 17 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lewiston on February 13, 1948, the son of the late Ralph J. and Annette (Ayotte) Richard. He attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1967. In December of 1967 Leo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. In August of 1969 Leo married the love of his life, Georgette (Guerin). Together they worked and raised their family in Lewiston. Leo was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, The VFW, The Elks and The DAV. He was an avid supporter of high school athletics, especially St. Dom's where his sons played and his grandsons now play. He was glad he had the opportunity to attend the St. Dom's - Lewiston Hockey game this past Saturday to watch his grandson play. He was a proud supporter of the Lewiston Maineiacs since their opening season. Leo also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his sons, and spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved so much.
Leo is survived by his wife of 41 years, Georgette Richard, two sons and their families; Lucien and Christine of Turner and their sons Michael and Nathan, Steven and Nicole of Enfield and their children Jacob and Melissa, one daughter; Rebecca and Aaron Buckley of Lewiston and their children William and Courtney Desmarais and Elizabeth Buckley. Seven brothers; Brother Irenee OP, Fernand and his wife Joanne, Donald, Philippe and his wife Muriel, Louis and his wife Stella, Gerard and his wife Louise, Robert and his wife June, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents Leo was predeceased by a brother Gilbert, his mother and father in laws, Lucien and Alma Guerin and his brother in law Mike Guerin. You are invited to share your thoughts, condolences and fond memories with the Richard family by visiting their guestbook at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.

Georgette, The sad news just reached the Levesques in N Conway.
Our condolences.
Thinking of Leo always brings a smile to my face!
For years, the high point of my day was our visit from Leo to deliver the "mail" at Pete's Seafood.
The mail was always accompanied with a new joke or story that would lighten our mood in a tough economy.
I'm grateful for having had the opportunity to give him a hug at a Maineacs game at Thanksgiving.
God bless your wonderful family and
give you strength in this trying time.

Georgette and family, my heart goes out to each of you. I may be far away but my memories of times with the Richard family have always been precious. Leo always made me feel welcome. When you only see your cousins many years apart that is so very important. Leo had a loving heart and will be missed. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Georgette, Lou, Steve and Beckey and extended Richards family; my family would like to express our deepest sympathies. The last time I saw your Dad he was driving by my fathers house two days after we had brought him home from his brain surgery. His smile was so bright. He stopped and we talked. He looked happy to be driving the back roads cruising around. He made sure to tell me to tell my dad to keep fighting. I remember how he always greeted me with the biggest smile. We will continue to pray daily for all of you. God Bless. Jamie and The Dufour Family

My heartfelt condolences to Leo's family. May the ray of sunshine bring a smile on your face and some peace to your heart as you recall times shared with Leo. Georgette, you and Leo both have made such an impact on my life and have touched so many! Always a houseful, and still opening your home and hearts to all. I have fond memories from years ago..boys of all ages outside or in the playroom, while girls of all ages usually in the kitchen. Leo would try to scare you with his roar, make you blush, and make you laugh, but you two always raised everyones spirits and made all feel welcome! Moose hunting, all night pig roast, kids at the pool,Georgette how many lbs of shrimp did Leo bring for us to clean??? all the family gatherings with so many activities always going on at the Richards. Leo had a contagious smile, and always a sparkle in his eye for his bride and kiddos. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Becky and Family,
My heartfelt sympathies are with you all at this difficult time. Among other great memories, I often think of your dad when I am driving because he was the one who coached me on how to follow a curve in the road smoothly, rather than jerking the car left, right, left, right, etc. I am grateful (as are many who have ridden in the car with me over the years) that Mr. Richard was there to help me with that! He was a great man and so lucky to have all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Becky & Family,

May all the wonderful memories you have of your father help carry you through this difficult time. I am sure my grandfather can not wait to play some sort of joke on Leo like they use to working together at the post office. Leo was once my mailman and will always be remembered by my family as "Leo the Mailman."

My sympathies & love,

To the Richards Family;
I first met Leo while working at the Post Office. He was the first to approach me, ask me if I was Billy Wade's son, then begin to tell me stories about he and my dad! How he always bid on my father's routes knowing if my father had them, they couldn't be very hard. Leo made me feel welcome from the minute I started. He will be missed.
