I had the honor of meeting and caring for this sweet man. He always shared his stories of the Windecker Eagle and how much he loved his children. He had a big heart and was always smiling. I will never forget his one of a kind personality and his many amazing stories and memories. Its been a few years now and He is still one of those great people that you just can't forget.

So sorry to run across this obit. Skipper, Bobby, and Teddy, would love to talk to you someday and catch up a little on all of the years gone by. Sorry I lost track of you many years ago. Leo and Fax and the 3 of you left me with many fond memories. I hope you are all well. Your old house has been torn down to the slab. We are still nextdoor, and mom is going to hit 94 later this year. Karen is just down the street as well. I have tried contacting you on Facebook to no avail. Hopefully our paths will cross again someday. So sorry for the loss of your dad, but it appears he had a very busy and successful life. I can still remember homemade root beer and the smell of fiberglass and the mint plants in Fax's flowerbeds and the high jump sand pit I practiced pole vaulting into, and Rodney and the trailer and much more. Oh, and Alfred E Newman. What, me worry? Thanks for all the fun times. Miss ya'll.

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Windecker. My father worked for Windecker Research in the late 60's and early 70's. My father was working for Aerocommander in Oklahoma in the mid 60's and was excited to be involved with the new technology Dr, Windecker was developing. I learned to drive in the parking lot of the hanger at the Regional Air Terminal. Lots of great memories from that building. Going to work with my dad on the weekends, the smell of the resin, the itch of the fiberglass. My dad and the test pilot became good friends as he was a pilot and we had our Navion at the field also.

My deepest sympathies to the Windecker family whom I have known for many years. I even had the opportunity to see first-hand his wonderful composite airplane when he flew it into Seguin. "And he shall raise you up on Eagle's wings and hold you in the palm of His hand." No doubt, Leo is soaring with all the eagles now.

My condolences to the Windecker family. I do not recall meeting the man, but went to high school in Midland with his son Ted. Now I wish I had learned more about his family ... Leo sounds like a guy I would have enjoyed meeting.

A great pioneer in aviation.

I remember as a child, with my father Roger "Bobby" Naylor, visiting the hanger at Pearland where the intial work was being done on the fiberglass wing.

I still remember the explaination given to me abour the wing. "It is like a bone. A hard outershell around a soft inside". I would not undererstand the concept until I was much older - build a wing like bones, light and strong.

Dr Windecker wil be missed by all.

I met Leo a few times in my life but heard many stories of about the old Hondo airbase from my father, Roger Naylor Sr. All those that worked with Leo believed that the Eagle was the future of flight. God bless!

Dr. Windecker's brilliancy was underestimated even at DARPA, but his work was recognized as outstanding by many, including airbus, SpaceX , Scaled Composites and others.
