My husband & I thought the world of Lee.
We just found out because we aren't living in the city anymore.
Our thoughts & prayers are with his family.

Mr Lee was a good friend to us at the Zoo facilities shops. Always playful and inspecting our daily work. He provided lots of good advice and encouragement with his special brand of humor and green cigars. (he never lit them).
May God bless his family and friends.

Mr. Lee (as we called him) was always kind to us, and so patient and playful with our two boys whenever we came to visit Irmela from Washington, DC. He teased them with that signature, mischievous smile of his until they figured out he was joking and smiled back. He taught my son how to make French toast (and how to clean up afterwards, of course), and we have many memories of long walks and games of Rummikub. His love of Irmela, his children and grandchildren and family and friends was palpable, and his inclination to chat with people he encountered in life was wonderfully endearing. He will be missed.

Leon was part of the family. I know that the daily phone calls with my father were a huge light in my dad's life. He learned so much from Leon, and I always felt deep love and support from Leon and Irmela. Seeing Leon's face at our family events was always a joy. May his neshama have an aliya and know that he was an important mentor and human to the Jacobson family.

Lee was a very special friend. He was very kind to me, made me laugh, and gave me counsel when I needed it. I have so many fun memories of times together. I first met Lee when I moved to Chicago from Park Ridge and joined the Chicago Walkers Club. It was my first Christmas in my condo and I had purchased a small Christmas tree at a place on Wells Street (with no thought on how I would carry it home). I met Lee on the way home and before I knew it, there was Lee taking the tree. He carried all the way to my place. But my best memories are the MANY Rummikub games Lee and Irmela and I played (along with memories of all the games he won). I miss him so much.

Leon was a wonderful man, with a smile, and great wisecrack, and so much love in his heart. Irmela, I'm so sorry we did not get together before he passed away. His work on behalf of Union Health Services was groundbreaking, and helped many people obtain good healthcare - including me at one point in my life! Love to you Irmela, and much much love to all the family. Michele Smith
