Bowers, Leonard Joseph, 83, of Spring Hill passed away June 9, 2012. Mr. Bowers came to the area 25 years ago from Jobstown, New Jersey. He was born in Trenton, New Jersey to William J. Bowers and Clara Grzela. He served full time in the New Jersey National Guard, retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was Catholic by faith and served the community as a Eucharistic minister at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church for the last fourteen years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree), served as chairperson of the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Committee, and was Director of Ushers at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church. While living in New Jersey, he served as President of the Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked during the summers in Sea Girt, New Jersey with the Governor's Youth Fitness Program. Leonard was a loving and dedicated family man, always willing to help anyone in need. He loved sports and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Adelaide Bowers; daughter, Barbara Anne Kidder and husband Philip of Spring Hill, FL; daughter, Lorraine Bowers Keenan of Hamilton Square, NJ; granddaughter Elizabeth Keenan Knauss of Bel Air, MD; grandson, Jonathan Kidder of Spring Hill, FL; and sister, Lorraine Everett and husband Paul of Lawrence, NJ. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 5:00 – 7:00 at the Spring Hill Chapel of Turner Funeral Homes. There will be a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, June 14, 2012, 11:00 AM at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with military honors.
