Leonard Carnie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 7, 2025.
Leonard Robert "Bob" Carnie Jr., 75, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 31, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Bob was the son of Leonard and Adeline Carnie. He grew up in the city before embarking on a life marked by hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to his family.

Following in his father's footsteps, Bob built a career as a printer-a trade that became both his livelihood and his legacy. In 2000, he purchased his own print shop in Wauconda and later moved the business to his home in Cary. Never one to sit still or take a break for long, Bob remained dedicated to his work until just weeks before his passing.

Bob shared nearly four decades of marriage with his beloved wife Kathy; they would have celebrated their 38th anniversary this July. Together they raised four children: Lisa (Richie), Jeramiah (Heather), Jonathan, and Lenny (Sarah). He was also a proud grandfather to Evan, Ava, Sophia, and Dylan. His sister Patti (Rich) also survives him. Bob's cherished bird Fiona continues to brighten the family home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by Marley, the family dog who was more than just a pet-Marley was Bob's spoiled rotten sidekick during his semi-retirement years. She became just as much a part of the family as his children, enjoying family dinners, cookouts and holidays just as much as Bob.

Bob had an infectious zest for life. He loved fishing trips that turned into tall tales, gambling adventures that were as much about camaraderie as luck, and golf games where the score mattered less than the laughs. Whether playing cards or cracking jokes over beers with friends, Bob was always the life of the party. He never needed an excuse to throw a celebration-any occasion would do-and he made sure everyone around him felt welcome and entertained. Even on difficult days, he found joy in making others smile.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy to those who remember his laughter. A Celebration of Life, a life lived with humor and heart, will be held on June 17, 2025, from 03:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Cary Country Club, 2400 Grove Lane. Please come dressed in your best Hawaiian gear or bright colored clothing to celebrate Bob's favorite style of "dress shirts".

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory to On Angels' Wings would be greatly appreciated, as Bob had a big heart for furry friends everywhere.

I will cherish having known Bob and will miss him stopping in at my work (Minuteman Press) to make him plates, sit and chat, and of course his jokes...even when they were bad, just his way of telling them, made me laugh.
