Leonard ELPHICK Obituary
Peacefully on May 21, 2015 at Algonquin Grace Hospice, Huntsville after a very courageous battle with cancer. Len Elphick of Huntsville in his 48th year. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Anissa Boosamra. Cherished son of Anne (nee Kebe) and the late Don Elphick. Dear brother of Louise Elphick, Don Elphick and his wife Suzanne. Son-in-law of Nola and Murray Carman, Carmel and the late Frank Boosamra. Brother-in-law of Paula Boosamra and Leanne Larwill. Loving uncle of Joshua, Curtis, Dawson, Jessica and Jackie. Dearly loved friend and mentor to many. Len Elphick was never going to let life pass him by. He said 'yes' to nearly every opportunity, whether social, professional, recreational or civic in nature. This led to a vast network of friends and colleagues, and a wide catalogue of experiences and stories, which he loved to tell. Outdoor education teacher, nature lover, fisherman, hunter, white water paddler, and the best friend you could hope for. Eternally optimistic, forever the social convener and host extraordinaire, he collected friends from each new adventure. His influence in the world of education will continue to be felt through the thousands of children he took hiking, skiing and canoing, who now understand our connection to the earth, as Len hoped they would. When cancer struck last summer, Len faced the challenge with resolve and certainty that he would prevail. Sadly despite Len's deepest effort, cancer won the war. His departure has been felt around the world, and he will be missed for eternity, but his infectious laugh and twinkling smile will be with us forever.
Paddle on, dear Len.
Visitation will be held at the Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Road Huntsville on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at Deerhurst Resort Beach, 1235 Deerhurst Drive, Huntsville on Friday May 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers Memorial Gifts to the Table Soup Kitchen, Huntsville would be appreciated by the family. www.billingsleyfuneralhome.com

Dear Anissa, we are so sad that Len had to leave us at such a young age. In the few years I got to know Len he left a lasting and life long impression. He was a truly a good, kind and gentle man. Our prayers are with you through this difficult time

I am sad at the loss of a good man. He was genuine, like sunshine on a early morning summer lake just before you made the first cast. They say time heals all but as I get older I'm not so sure; for like sunshine fading on a late evening winter lake I feel that what I've lost will not be replaced leaving only sadness as my companion.

Beautifully written tribute to Len. As I reflect upon the legacy of my younger cousin I am comforted in the knowledge that his life touched so many people in such a positive way as this unprecedented outpouring of affection for the man gives evidence that he was making a difference in the world. He is a role model for the rest of us. I am thankful for his life!

Very sad to hear this new. Len was truly a great spirited guy. The world had lost a great one but heaven has gained.....my fondest memory will he smiled endlessly. I will cherish his memory at Volunteer Builders at this years build....
