Leonard Edward Hayes

My dear cousin Leonard, it´s been a couple of years since you went home to be with the Lord, but please know, you are thought of often and actually 3 cousins spoke of you just this week! Your spirit lives on and know we will all be together again! Much love dear cousin.

I miss you my friend. I know you are at peace.

Mr. Leonard was my neighbor on Sharlo in Baton Rouge, back in the late nineties. I used to cut his grass for him and we became good friends. I'd go over and sit with him sometimes, just to talk and visit. He always had a story or anecdote on deck to make me laugh or to relate to whatever issue it was that I wanted to talk to him about. He was a great source of wisdom and mischievousness and usually had a twinkle in his eye as a joke or comment was developing. When I moved away, we tried to stay in touch but our conversations became more and more infrequent. I was saddened to find out that he had passed away and I wasn't able to say goodbye. I take solace in knowing that he was welcomed with open arms to a better place and is now looking down on us all. He is very much missed. Goodbye to a good friend.

Leonard talking to you on weekends or when ever your voice was clear brought great joy to us. These are some of the blessings and memories that make life so sweet and you will stay in our hearts forever.

My Dear Cousin Leonard,
Thank you for the many memories, from our first meeting as youngsters throughout the joys and challenges of life. I will always remember the love and support you showed my Mother (Aunt Hattie "Momma Fox") during her final days. I miss our telephone conversations and shared prayers. I now pray that your soul will enjoy eternal rest and peace in God's Kingdom.

In 2003 when LSU played for the National football championship . Mr. Leonard gave my mother two LSU tickets so that I could watch LSU play in what was the most memorable game of my life. Tickets were so hard to come by but being that Mr. Leonard was a friend of my parents , he wanted to give me something special. To this day I’ve never forgotten Mr. Leonard for giving us that wonderful gift .

Thank you Mr. Leonard again, you truly were a man amongst angels then and no doubt an angel today.

The gift of a cheerful spirit is a blessing from God. Thank you, my Father, for allowing us to share the blessings sent to us through Your loving son, Leonard. The joy of hearing Leonard’s delightful “stories,” his high-spirited laughter, and his unfailing promise of prayers for each of us brightened so many of our days.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Leonard’s Family. Leonard served as my Superintendent during my career at LSVI. He epitomized professionalism. His educational leadership helped to improve the lives of many students in Louisiana. May God grant Leonard eternal peace in His kingdom.

Leonard was a good friend who was always ready to help the less fortunate. It was a pleasure to work with Leonard to help the disabled through Very Special Arts, Louisiana. We will all miss Leonard. May he rest in the Peace of Our Lord and may Almighty God bless all of Leonard's family and friends, always and in all ways.

Now I truly miss his regular phone calls! We shared a lot over the years, especially since he presided at my mother’s funeral (Vera Hayes Lopez).
