I express my sincere condolences. I had the privilege of participating in several meetings with Dr. Peters at the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet. We met regarding research grant applications. I immediately sensed he was a man of integrity. Even though our interactions were not lengthy or long-term, Dr. Peters continued to send me an annual Christmas card at my work address! I'm grateful I knew such a fine gentleman.
" 'He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.' And He who sat upon the throne said, 'Behold, I make all things new.' " - Rev. 21:4-5

I had the privilege to serve with Len on the technical advisory board of the Mascaro Center for Sustainability Innovation. From the moment we met, Len taught me not only the value of technical excellence but also what it means to be a leader. I learned a great deal from him about the kind of person I want to be, in the very short period of time I got to spend with him. Thanks, Len, for your grace and warmth and sharing your knowledge. You will be sorely missed!

Dr. Len Peters was my boss when I was a postdoc to him at UK in 1977-78 and 1981-82. I deeply believe my career of a researcher in the field of atmospheric environment could start by his guidance. In my mind Len had always been an ideal mentor as a university professor. My deepest condolences to his family.

My condolences to Georgiana, Mark, Tracy, Craig and the extended family. I had the privilege of working (and occasionally butting heads) with Len during his tenure as Secretary of the Energy and Environment Cabinet. I appreciated his passion for public service and his intelligence, and the Commonwealth is a better place because of Len.
In the Jewish faith, there is a saying "May his memory be a blessing to you."

I was shocked this morning to learn of Len's passing. From the time I met him at UK many years ago, I saw his as a hero figure, a very remarkable man. Some years later when Jake suggested bringing him to Battelle on a sabbatical, I jumped at the chance. I wanted to see him stay. When he returned as lab Director, I was so happy even though I was no longer a part of PNNL. I later felt his pain at VT when the shooting occurred. I've never known somebody as genuine and grateful as Len. I feel very privileged and blessed to have known him. May God bless Len, Georgianne and their families.
