Leonard Pohl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 23, 2025.
Leonard "Lenny" Pohl, 72, of Fort Myers, FL passed away peacefully after a short battle with glioblastoma brain cancer on March 22, 2025.

Born and raised in Erie, PA he made his way to Newport, RI where he lived for many years before relocating to the southwest coast of Florida.

Lenny served his country in the US Navy in the 1970's and enjoyed a career helping the residents of Collier County Florida as an EMT and then Lt Paramedic for 22 years. During that time, he was awarded The Phoenix Award on six separate occasions for bringing someone back to life in cardiac distress.

Whether on a softball field, a golf course, a dart board or a pool table, he loved to compete, and was a lifelong Cleveland baseball fan, pronouncing at the beginning of every season, "this is our year, kid". He was also a trivia aficionado and loved reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jerome & Eleanor Pohl, as well as his brother-in-law, Lawrence Pomorski Sr.

He is survived by his daughter, the love of his life, Jessica Pohl (Andrew Hunter), as well as his sister Camille Pomorski, and nephews Lawrence Pomorski Jr & Michael (Christine) Pomorski.

A special thank you to those who helped him at Gulf Coast Memorial Hospital, The Rehabilitation Hospital at Lee Memorial, Seaside at Fort Myers, and Vitas Hospice Services.

Internment of his ashes will be private, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Potter League for Animals, where he adopted his best friend Nanook, or to the Aquidneck Island Land Trust, which conserves open space in the community where he raised his daughter. Both organizations are in Middletown, RI.

One of Lenny's final messages was that the most important thing in life is the people you love, and the time you share with them.

I worked with Lenny for years at EMS and he introduced me into golf. We would turn a game on and fall asleep while watching!! He was an amazing partner to have and always made me laugh. I regret that I haven´t seen him in a long time but I have pleasant memories. Go Indians !! Go Cleveland!! Love you Lenny.

So very sorry for your loss. Uncle Lenny was a great guy with an absolute heart of gold.

We can take solace knowing he did not suffer and that he is in a better place, among loving family and friends and where his Indians are always winning ball games, the 8 ball is always falling, and he is always coming up with bullseyes on the dart board.
