Mr Sawicki was a real cool teacher, he made all of are classes interesting and fun I remember how much of a positive attitude he had while subbing for me at Irving MS

Mr. Sawicki was the greatest substitute teacher I've ever had. He cared about those around him and made it his priority to do so. He always told many stories in Civics class and made students laugh. I enjoyed every moment in his second period about two years ago. I will always and forever remember the CNN student news every morning, along with his bright smile and ebullient personality. Thank you for everything. My condolences to his family.

He always came in with a smile on his face. He greeted every staff member. I was amazed to find out that he was never a teacher, because I always thought he was a retired teacher because of how well he handled the students and his knowledge content material. I am deeply saddened by this tragedy. His friendly greeting always brightened my day.

He was an amazing sub when my Civics teacher left, he was very engaging and really cared about us students. Rest in peace Mr. Sawicki.

I worked closely with Len during several of his long term substitute assignments. Len was always full of cheer, a role model for students in his charge, and had the ability to hold court in the classroom with his easy going manner and his bag of stories. Please know that Len was proud of his family and so enjoyed his children and grandchildren and the joy they brought to him and his wife. He will be greatly missed at Irving Middle School.

I am deeply saddened by the news of such a wonderful substitute as Len. He was the first person that I worked very closely with as I took over my current position at WIMS. He was such a wonderful help to me both last year and this year! He was always wore a great smile! He will be greatly missed here.

I send my deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this time.

Sincerely,

Mr. Sawicki was one of the kindest, funniest, most interesting, and caring teachers I've ever had. He took over as a long term sub for my eighth grade Civics class about two years ago at Irving Middle School in Springfield. My fellow classmates and I just recently found out about his passing and we are deeply saddened. He would always say hello to anyone he saw and always had a smile in his face. He would tell us stories about wars and planes, he knew a lot about planes! He always gave us something to smile about in class, whether it was a silly joke, or playing a google map game where we had to figure out what place we were looking at. A student even made a Twitter page in honor of him dedicated to all the funny or quirky things he would say. I think he gave us all something to look forward to on a bad day. Sometimes we still talk about him and the funny things that used to happen in class... we never forgot about him, and I don't think we ever will. :)
Our sincere condolences,
Sophia Wasilisin and his 8th grade Civics students

I am so saddened to hear about this. Mr. Sawicki was a constant figure at our school (Irving Middle School). He was long term sub for several of our teachers to the point where we considered part of our staff and Irving family. He was patient, kind, generous with his laughter and smile. You will be very missed Mr. Sawicki and we have been all blessed to have had you in our lives.

Oh my goodness! I knew Len through him substituting at my school and he was always upbeat, helpful, and most importantly in a middle school, firm with the kids. They loved him, though, and I always received great notes from both him and the kids!

I am so sorry for your loss, and please know that his life shone through and inspired many students over the years! Frost Middle School sends our love!

Our heartfelt condolences to Len's family. We worked with Len (and Joan) for many years at casino parties. He was such a pleasure to work with and had a very sweet and kind spirit. We're sad that we won't be able to see his smiling face at another party, but we feel blessed to have known him. He will be missed.

Nancy and Family - My heart goes out to you at this very sad and unexpected time. Len was always smiling whenever I saw him and so nice to talk with. He will be sorely missed in and around our neighborhood. Please feel free to call on me whenever I can be of assistance whether it is running errands, shoveling snow, taking out the trash, chatting over coffee, etc.
