Pastor Leroy Gilbert Doe

Pastor Leroy Gilbert Doe 72, a Burton native, husband of Vireen Harper Doe, died Saturday, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born November 11, 1947 in Burton, SC, a son of the late Deacon James E. Doe, Sr. and the late Deaconess Julia E. Donaldson Doe. On August 28, 1960, he was baptized in the body of Christ at New Hope Christian Church in Burton. He was a 1966 graduate of Robert Smalls where he was Salutatorian. In 1971, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from South Carolina State College. He was an ordained and Licensed Minister of the Gospel. He was the pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Commerce, GA from 1984 until 1992. At the time of his death, he was the Pastor of Concord Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA, where he had served for nearly 28 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Patrick and Harry. Surviving are his wife, Vireen Harper Doe of Atlanta, GA; his sisters: Debra D. Scott, Ed. S. and Attorney Cheryl V. Doe; brothers: James E. Doe, Jr. and Pastor Kenneth C. (Gwen) Doe; aunt, Mrs. Gertrude D. Brown; uncle, Dr. Leon M. (Merita) Donaldson; nieces, nephews, generations of cousins, Robert Smalls High School Class of 1966 and the New Hope Church Family. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Concord Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA under the direction Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home.
