Prof, Blumgart Operated on me in 1980 in Hammersmith Hosp. after a failed Gall bladder removal and bile duct that had been cut and 3 more failed ops. to put right. I owe him my life as Im sure do many others, such a great man.

I knew and worked with "The Prof´" at Hammersmith Hospital, London in the early 1980´s.
I was a trainee Operating Department Assistant.
Prof Blumgart always had a list on Thursdays in theatre 4. Here along with a scotsman named Mr Benjamin or Benji as the prof called him, they would embark upon lengthy surgical procedures, notably Hepatico- jejunostoy´s.This involved a " Rooftop" incision following the line of the lower ribs from one side of the patient to the other.
I vividly remember him in his half lenth wellingtons and his pipe.
As a 20 year old I was in awe of him yet his quiet demeanour and unassuming attitude served to make him hugely popular.
I am saddened to hear of his passing.
Not only a world class leading surgeon but also a kind, caring man whi had the time for all.
God speed Prof, your work is done.
