Leslie Donald Webb, 91, of Sturgis, MI passed away December 18, 2014 after a hard fought battle with Wegner's Granulomatosis. Les was born March 31, 1923 in Smithville, Ontario, Canada, the eldest son of Robert P. and Adelaide M. (King) Webb. As an infant, the family moved to Chicago, IL for a short period of time and then settled in Grand Rapids, MI. The family then moved to Sturgis, early in 1941and Les was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1941. He joined the Army in February, 1943. Les volunteered for the Airborne Division and saw action as a squad leader with the 462nd Battalion, Airborne Artillery, 503rd Division. He participated in the liberation of the Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea. On January 4, 1947 he married Susan Christensen in Angola, IN. Susan survives him at the same house they built in 1947 and they celebrated all of their anniversaries there. Les joined Kirsch Company in January 1950. He retired in 1981, as the general foreman of the warehouse and shipping operations. Les was a talented artist in several medias, but was best known for his cartoons and caricatures of his friends and co-workers. Many a person have been the recipient of his good natured cartoons. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant daughter, Wendy Sue, in 1955. He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Susan; 3 sons: David (Kathy), Stephen (Cheryl), and James all of Sturgis; two brothers: David and Roger both of Sturgis; six beloved grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Leslie will be held at a later date. The Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 is entrusted the arrangements. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Webb's memory consider the Sturgis Salvation Army, 105 N. Fourth St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
