Lewis Foster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2006.
FOSTER, Lewis, Jr., on August 14, 2006 our beloved, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lewis (Buddy) was born in Garland, AR on April 3, 1938. At an early age he confessed Christ and was baptized. As a small child, he was a member of Wynn Baptist Church in Garland, AR. Lewis moved to Tucson in 1957 where he started work as a licensed contractor. Lewis enlisted in the Army in 1961 and served our country in Vietnam. He was the first black president of the Tucson Optimist Club and a member of the Tucson Black Chamber of Commerce, as well as many other community organizations. He was a member of Revelation Missionary Baptist Church and Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he served in the Male Choir. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling around in his RV "Bad Dog or Buck Boogade" and attending his grandchildren's basketball games, where he was known and loved as Bigdaddy. He is preceded in death by his parents: father, Lewis Foster, Jr. and mother, Pearl Dafney; grandfather, Lewis Foster, Sr. and grandmother, Lettie Jones Foster; ex-wife, Lessie B. Foster; grandchild, Eric Foster; brothers, Sam Dafney, Earnest Brown and Josh Dafney; sister, Rosie Brown; cousin, George Foster. He leaves to cherish his memories: son, Lewis Foster, Jr.; four daughters, Debra Stephenson of San Diego, CA, Trina Harris, Evia Elaine Foster (Humberto Rios) and Debra Copp (Forrest) all of Tucson, AZ. Significant other, Judy Vinson; ten grandchildren, Everett J. Harris, Brandy Redd, Amber Foster, Dominique Harris, Tamra Foster, Lewis Tarell Foster, Nathaniel Foster, Humberto Rios, Jr., Denise Riggs and Danielle Riggs; four great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Foster, Jayla Harris, Tre Devon Eugene Rhodes, Jaison Lewis; adopted children, Justin Ponder and Brandon Ponder; brothers and sisters, Estella Richardson, Lena Foster, Thomas Ivory Dafney, Roger Power, Roy Lee Harris and Linda Foster all of Los Angeles, CA, Gloria Ann Williams, Ethel William, Mary Frances William, Carter Foster and Sylvester Foster of Louisville, Texarkana and Garland, AR and a host of nieces and nephews, other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make donations to the Leukemia or Cancer Society in Lewis' name. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Temple Baptist Church, 1019 E. 31st Street in Tucson, AZ.

Lewie was an old-fashioned gentleman, modest, generous, a joy to have known. Too soon gone, never to be forgotten. My deepest condolencence to Judy and all his loved ones.

I enjoyed my visits with Lew. We always had fun and lively discussions and I will miss that greatly. My sypmathy goes to all his family members. Rest in peace, Lew. I'll see you again some day, so keep a chair available for me.
