Mr. Shields was born in Indiana, Pa., a son of the late Walter W. and Olie E. Walker Shields. He graduated from Indiana Joint High and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Paul was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion Post #1, the Disabled Veterans and Eastside Christian Church.
Mr. Shields is predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ronald W. Shields; and a grandson, Joseph Daniel Shields.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Phyllis Marie Pickard Shields of the home; two sons, Lewis P. (Donna) Shields Jr., of Florence and Christopher K. (Renee) Shields of Darlington; two daughters, Ronda L. Cottrell of Huntsville, Ala., and Kimberly S. (James) Gilliam of Jacksonville, Ark.; a brother, Raymond W. Shields of Jamestown, N.Y.; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Florence National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the funeral home.

Sorry to hear about Uncle Paul. I wish I could have made it down there to of seen him before this. He is in a better place now with the Lord to ease his pain and suffering. Will miss him.
