LIBERTY — Libby Fogleman Dodson Butler, 74, died on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital at 11:17 p.m., she would have died at 10:17 p.m. but as usual, she was running a little late.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church where she was a life long member, with the Rev. Howard Spray officiating. Following the service a release of 75 white balloons will be on the church lawn in honor of her 75th birthday and a time of fellowship will be held in the church fellowship hall.
Libby was born on March 17, 1936 in Alamance County to the late Jesse and Fannie Hinshaw Fogleman. She had a wonderful and happy childhood. You could always find her walking with her walking stick topped with curls of bailing twine and singing with the voice of a nightingale. On Saturday nights she and her "Pretty Pappy" would go to the Curtis Theatre to see an exciting movie. She loved playing basketball and in 1955 Libby won the title "May Queen" and graduated from Sylvan High School. Throughout her life she loved to play softball and was always the exceptional catcher and won most valuable player several times. One of her many hobbies was raising catfish in the family pond. She was a great business woman and successful as owner and operator of Liberty Ice House. Libby loved to travel and was fortunate to travel around the world and visit every state of the United States. Her favorite place was Wrightsville Beach, where she loved walking on the beach and fishing from the pier.
She loved the fact that she was born on St. Patrick's Day. She always wore green on that day and if you didn't have on green she would pinch you and just laugh. She always had a smile and a joke for you. She will surely be missed.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, R.D. Dodson; parents; brothers, Spurgeon Isley, Cecil Fogleman, Bill Fogleman and Jesse "Doddle" Fogleman.
Libby is survived by her husband of 23 years, Jimmy Sizemore Butler of Liberty; son, Robert Alan Dodson of Greensboro; daughter, Terri Ann Dodson of Liberty; and sister, Betty Fogleman Lowe (Bobby V. Lowe).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill Christian Church, 1712 Pleasant Hill- Liberty Rd., Liberty, NC 27298.

A good time was to be had by all who spent time with my Aunt Lib! Her vivacious personality was so refreshing and uplifting! She lived life to the fullest and was a friend to ALL who met her. She always had that big smile and took the vicissitudes of daily life in stride ~ always making the best of whatever came her way. My best memories of her are the times my family and I spent together with her on the banks of her pond - fishing and laughing together. She was so much fun to be with - always welcoming us with open arms. We will truly miss her! May she rest in peace. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to her beloved Jimmy, Alan, Terri and Aunt Betty - the family that she loved so much.
