Lilia Hernandez (Alonzo), age 93, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2025, in McAllen, Texas. Born on April 21, 1932, in Matamoros, Mexico, Lilia lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to her family and her profession.

Lilia pursued her education in nursing, graduating from LVN nursing school. She went on to serve as a nurse for over 35 years, working in hospital obstetrics and nursing homes. Her career was defined by compassion and commitment to the well-being of others, touching countless lives through her care.

She was a pillar of strength and support for her family and an example of unwavering loyalty. Her presence brought comfort and stability to those around her.

Lilia is survived by her son, Agapito Hernandez; her grandson, Tomas A. Hernandez; her granddaughter, Rachel A. Meyer; and her siblings Susanna Killion, Aurelia Zehentmeyer, Blas Alonzo, Victor Alonzo, and Rita Alonzo. She was preceded in death by her daughter Hermelinda Hernandez; sisters Hortencia Rios, Evangelina Garcia, Jovita Pennsinger; and brothers Ricardo Alonzo and Armando Alonzo.

The family extends special thanks to Mrs. Erica Haro for over six years of loyal service as Lilia's home care provider. Her dedication brought great comfort during Lilia's later years.

A funeral service will be held in McAllen, Texas, honoring Lilia's life and legacy.

May her memory bring peace and comfort to all who knew her. A Rosary will be held on July 14, 2025, from 07:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Rivera Funeral Home 1901 Pecan Blvd. viewing will be Monday July 14,2025 3:00pm to 9:00pm

chapel service at Rivera Funeral Home Tuesday July 15, 2025at 10:00am followed by funeral at La Piedad cemetery 1801 Wichita, McAllen TX
