Lillia Mae Box-Halliday-Deats

Lillia Mae Deats passed away Friday September 19, 2014, at her home in Clovis NM at the age of 103. She was born to Steven Thomas Box and Doshia T. Minter in Grady NM on October 12, 1910, both of whom have preceded her in death.
Lillia Mae was an adventurous woman who loved to travel abroad taking a mission trip to Mexico City in the 1930's, before travel was as easy and convenient as it is today. She regularly hosted prayer meetings in her home and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church here in Clovis, NM. Having fun was also a defining characteristic of Lillia Mae and during the roaring 20's she was known to be a flapper. Like many women of her generation, she quilted works of art for her family but had stipulations on her creations; in order to receive your gift you must behave, helping to incentivize good behavior. Lillia Mae was an amazing cook as well with apple dumplings and homemade bread being some of her signature dishes. She was also a farm girl which taught her how to raise chickens at home to utilize both their eggs and meat.
Lillia Mae is remembered by her family as being a humanitarian and a strong female role model. She had a heart for people in need and helped by donating her time at the Salvation Army. Bob's Market regularly donated food and Lillia Mae headed up the call by making sure that produce was given to the right people who needed it the most. She would transverse the town, giving people who didn't have the resources the needed food for their families from the donated produce. She helped to run the Salvation Army store and some of her grandchildren loved to tag along with her. They would spend the day trying on donated clothing and hats in the store much to her delight. Lillia Mae had 11 siblings all of whom have preceded her in death; two children Flossie Gentry of Clovis NM and Harold Dean" Cowboy" Halliday who has also preceded her in death. Surviving grandchildren; Lynn Gentry of Albuquerque NM, Kay Barker of Hagerman NM, Danise Williams of Grand Prairie TX, LaDeana Lucero of Peoria AZ, Hillard Halliday of Hagerman NM; 8 Great grandchildren; Robert Rosales, Brandi Rosales, Celia Lucero, Natasha Lucero, Mariah Williams, Montana Williams, Justin Barker, and Travis Barker.
Services are under the direction of Steed Todd Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, September 26, 2014, from 8am to 8pm and Saturday, September 27, 2014, from 8am to 2pm.
The funeral service will be held at the Steed Todd Chapel at 800 E. Manana St. at 3pm with interment to follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
