God bless you dear Lillian, my treasured art professor at Lewis University. You were gifted with great talent and I appreciate your instruction and inspiration. I paint abstract cross paintings now.

I met Lillian in 1966 when she was painting the San Miguelito church murals in Panama. She had smudges of paint on her clothing and looked as if she'd just stepped out of a mural. She related to the people in the community and this was depicted in her contemporary graphic style. The people could relate to the murals and the transformation in their community in a positive way and took pride in themselves. Lillian was totally dedicated to her work and the uniqueness in which she presented a spiritual message. We were in conversation on a daily basis until she finished the project. I had admiration for her as a person and her devotion to purpose. We stayed in touch over the years and I considered myself fortunate to call her a friend.

Aunt Lil as we called her was such a passionate person. She always made me feel welcome in her studio or when she visited our family in Cincinnati. I can still hear her voice teaching us Spainish and telling stories about her travels. I know that she is now with my Grandfather, Frank Brulc in heavan and May they rest in Peace.

Lillian was a deep, contemplative soul, who shared the fruits of her contemplation - her rich inner life - with others in many ways, but particularly through her remarkable artistic ability. Her art masterpieces can be found throughout the world today, but locally, generations of youngsters who attended St. Joseph School on Scott Street were drawn into a deeper spiritual life through the magnificent religious murals Lillian painted in each classroom in 1954 (making St. Joseph School a museum of fine art in its own right). I am proud that Lillian was a friend of mine, and in time to come, I believe she will be remembered as one of our era's finest artists. The Catholic Church, Joliet, and the Slovenian-American community will always remember her as one of their own with pride and gratitude. My condolences to Lucija and other family members. Right after I heard about Lillian's death, I offered Mass for Lillian in our cloister chapel here at the Pontifical Angelicum University in Rome, where I am assigned. May she rest in peace.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

My deepest sympathies to all of Lillian's family and friends. She was a dear friend to the Rozich and Kunich families (my grandmother and her sister). She was best friends with my mother's first cousin, Anne Kunich Fyie. Lillian's generosity with sharing her art knew no bounds. Her murals grace each room of my grade school, St. Joseph's, and she gave slide shows in the Kunich basement of her trips to Slovenia, "introducing" us to relatives and friends still living there in the early 1950s. One of them gave me my first impression of what Europe was like - many years before I actually traveled to Europe. She was generous also in cheerfully welcoming us to her studio. Lillian was a very talented artist and a kind, generous woman. May she rest in peace.
