LILLIAN "LIBBY" SHANKMAN

Lillian "Libby" Shankman, 93, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services in Overland Park, KS. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, in the Yukon Chapel at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 5529 Ditzler Avenue, Raytown, MO, 64129. Burial to follow. Kindly omit flowers. The family suggests contributions to the Blanche and Peretz Lerner Scholarship Fund at the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, 5301 W. 115th St., Overland Park, KS 66211. Libby was born in Akron, Ohio on March 7, 1917, to Isaac and Ethel Kodish. Upon her marriage to Philip Shankman in 1946, she moved to Kansas City, MO, and remained here until her death. She worked alongside her husband at Shankman's Delicatessen until its closing in 1968. Libby then worked for another 15 years as a sales associate at the Metcalf South location of Harzfeld's, where she took pride in helping countless numbers of women coordinate their wardrobes, using her superb fashion sense to always make her customers look their very best. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom, Hadassah and the Jewish War Veterans. Libby was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Philip. She will be remembered by her cousin Jeannette Pener of Overland Park, KS; her sisters-in-law Marilyn Bressel of Kansas City, MO, Goldie Glick of Chicago, IL, and Rosalyn Lerner of Overland Park, KS; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Alexander Davis and the staff at ManorCare for the excellent care they provided. They also appreciate more than they can humanly express Libby's companion, Shirley Moore, for her selfless devotion and loving attention.
