Lily Hutchins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2004.
Lily Mariah Hutchins SEBRING - Lily Mariah Hutchins, 53, a planner for Highlands County for the past four years, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the USMMA Florida Parent's Association, c/o Randy Segert, Treasurer, 531 Hidden Hollow Drive, Merritt Island, FL 32952. Mariah was a longtime resident of the Tallahassee area, including 15 years in Lloyd. She was a teacher and an anthropologist. She was a textile expert who made authentic costumes for her many years of volunteer participation in 17th-century living history at Mission San Luis in Tallahassee and in St. Augustine. She raised Spanish goats from San Clemente Island as part of her costume. She researched, designed and embroidered 17th-century samplers designed in both Spanish and English styles and taught others how to use these techniques. She even knitted red-and-white argyle socks for the 42nd Highlanders. Mariah also was a Quaker, a peace advocate and supporter of the environment. But most of all, she was the proud and loving mother of a terrific young man. Survivors include a wonderful son, George Walton Foster, a sophomore cadet at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kingspoint, N.Y. She also is survived by her mother, Doris Bary of Palm Harbor, and dear friends, Susan Cook Warrner of Tallahassee and Penny Phillippi and Elaine Bryant, both of Sebring. All will miss her dearly.
