LINDA K. CALHOUN, 77, beloved wife of Thomas K. Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was viewed by all who knew her as an incredibly kind, genuine, thoughtful and caring person. She dramatically brightened every room she was in, leaving a positive impact on everyone she met. In fact, the only people who didn’t love Linda were those who had never met her.
A native of Minneapolis, MN, Linda was a daughter of the late Oliver C. “Butch” and Phyllis Ray Knapheide. She and Tom met, became friends and fell in love at Iowa State University. She was a homemaker and worked tirelessly for 20+ years to raise her two children and consistently make any house where she lived into a beautiful, warm and inviting home. Linda and Tom moved to Aiken in 2006 from Palatine, IL. Linda was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Chancel Choir. She was a member of the Growing Christians Sunday School Class and was a certified Stephen Minister. She also was an active member of the Aiken Women’s Heart Board for many years. Socially, you could often find her playing golf with any one of her close friends from the Cedar Creek community.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Tom; two sons, Christopher Kent Calhoun (Ashley), Delafield, WI, Brian Charles Calhoun (Christine), Palatine, IL; grandchildren, Jessie, Jackson, Benjamin, Lauren and Elyse; two daughters-in-law, Erin Calhoun, Palatine, IL, Jeanne Demet, Hartland, WI. Although she has left this world, the memory of her sweet, loving spirit will live on forever in our hearts and minds.
A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, September 23rd at 2 o’clock at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Revs Dr. W. Timothy McClendon and Grayson “Butch” Blackwell officiating. Inurnment will be in the church’s columbarium. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Growing Christians Sunday School Class and the Aiken Women’s Heart Board.
Following the service, a reception will be held in St. John’s Ward Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s UMC, P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802.
