Linda Ann Ward Chapman

San Angelo

Linda Ann Ward Chapman went to be with the Lord on Dec. 16, 2015.

Visitation will be held all day Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at the funeral home with family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.

Linda was born in San Angelo, Texas, to Chester and Georgeann Ward on July 21, 1940. In 1955, she married Ralph Rickard and had five children and spent 17 years together. Linda then remarried in 1980 to her sweetheart, Ray Chapman (Pop), where after 22 long, happy years of love and spending time with family, Ray unfortunately passed away.

Linda was called "Lady Wing Foot" by her peers at Goodyear, where she spent her years as a test driver on the Proving Grounds for 23 years, where she logged over three million safe miles. After retirement, she spent her days gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends; while sipping coffee and watching her grandchildren grow and start families of their own. Altogether Linda has 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Linda was called "Mom" by many. Mom was famous for her cooking, wisdom and never knowing a stranger. Everyone was welcome at her table. Mom always made sure your stomach was full and taught everyone how to love unconditionally.

Mom is survived by her sons, Rick, Jimmy and William Rickard, all of whom reside in San Angelo, Texas; three daughters, Stephanie Johnson and Stacey Prescott, both of San Angelo and Deanna Pearson of Tyler, Texas.

The family is comforted knowing that Linda is with her Mama, Pop and her best friend/daughter, Ginny.

We would like to thank Hospice, Interim and Central Texas Nursing Home for all their care and support; especially Lisa, Jennifer and Tony.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my place I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid for I am with you always."

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for her love of her grandbabies.

Linda and I grew up in the same neighborhood and spent much time together when we were expecting. We even shared maternity clothes and baby clothes. Mrs. Ward sewed for us and I'll never forget when Daddy died she made my sister a dress for his funeral in one day. I'm sorry for your loss, especially at this time of the year. Linda was a good person and friend.

My sweet Aunt Linda, I will celebrate you and cherish the memories of family reunions and get togethers forever. I always loved making the trips to San Angelo for visits and especially staying with you. To Rick, Jim, Willie, and the rest of the family may GOD embrace you in his loving arms during this time and fill you with comfort. Much love from your cousin Keri
