Linda Speece Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2025.
Ms. Linda Sue Speece, born on March 19, 1947, in Greenup, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on May 24, 2025, in Richardson, Texas. At the age of 78. Her passing closes a chapter of her being a devoted Partner, Sister, Mother,Grandmother and great-grandmother. She will Lovingly be remembered by Robert (Bob) Stein her Daughter Debra Whaner, step daughters Theresa Kindel, Elizabeth Speece, her grand Children Nikkie Speece, Tiffany Owens (Branden Smith) and their 3 girls, Dalton Whaner (Austyn Whaner) and their 6 children, Kaycee Whaner (Eric Rivera) and their son. Linda was a mother, grandmother and a great grandmotherand . She will be truly missed by all.

When you think of Linda, what comes to mind are the good Times. One of Bob's memories is how mom was so Fascinated with the trips they took, as she had never been out of the United States. One of her favorite places they went to was Alaska. Or when she would take road trips to East Texas to visit us. Her and her granddaughter Nikkie would stop for snacks and when they got on the road Mom would turn the radio up loud and they would sing their hearts out. Her granddaughter Tiffany would tell you that some of her favorite memories is the family dinners, we would share with Linda. Oh, and Dalton remembers when mom and Bob went to Colorado, and he had a class project to see whose rocket could go the highest.

While on the other hand Kaycee remembers her grandmother teaching her how to Hulu Hoop when she was a little girl. My memory is when I was little, and mom and I were playing Cowboys and Indians l asked her to tie me up while I sat on the couch, and she did.

AND... I fell off the couch and hit my head and ended up at the doctors. When he asked me what happened, all I said was my mommy tied me up. I could only Imagin the look on her face. When you need a reminder of how Linda loved you just think of some of the good times you had with her and hopefully it makes you smile.

Linda is preceded in death by her Father Tivis Akers, Mother Hazel Akers, and many of her siblings along with her stepdaughter Carol Owens.

Linda is survived by her brother Virgil Akers (Bobbi Akers) of W. VA.

Growing up I remember when I would go to spend the weekends with her and my dad. I played with Barbie dolls and she had a cup that she let me put some coke in and put in the freezer and it would make a slushy. The long fur coat( fake) and matching hats we got for Christmas one year. When I stayed over she would drive my friend and I to Brookpark Skating rink. She was a very important part of my childhood.

I knew Linda and Debbie many many years ago when we lived in a duplex on Garden Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, Linda and my mother became special friends and kept in touch over the yearsI remember Linda was always laughing and smiling one day. I was in the yard trying to do cartwheels in the front yard, and Linda had to show me how to do them. She was a lot of fun to have as a neighbor, and I was really surprised when she moved to Texas, considering as I remember, she hated thunderstorms later in life we were able to reconnect and I was glad to know her. I hope she will be flying high with the angels now and that she runs into my mom up there as I know my mom would love to see her. my thoughts and prayers are with Debbie and her family as this is a great loss. God bless you all.
