Linda Suddeth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2024.
Linda W. Suddeth, born on November 13, 1940, in Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She grew up in North Augusta, South Carolina, where she was known for her vibrant personality and ability to light up any room she entered.

Linda attended the University of South Carolina, where she initially pursued a degree in Education. Her studies took a pause when she met Jerry Suddeth, a young Engineering student from Greenville, South Carolina. The two married on March 18, 1962, and shared a devoted union spanning over 62 years. Together, they built a life in Columbia, South Carolina, and welcomed their son Charles ("Chuck") Suddeth in 1964. Linda embraced motherhood with joy and dedication.

In 1977, Linda returned to USC to complete her degree and embarked on a rewarding career as an educator in the local school district. Over two decades of teaching, she touched the lives of countless students with her kindness and humor. Her time as a teacher also brought her cherished friendships with a close-knit group of colleagues affectionately known as the "Steel Magnolias," who shared many memorable experiences together.

Linda had a passion for gardening, and was a decades long member of the Lexington County Master Gardeners' Association. From this experience she formed another very special group of friends, the "Beach Babes", who took yearly trips to Edisto Beach for over twenty years, and enjoyed weekly lunches together.

Linda was active in her community, volunteering for her local Homeowners Association and serving as a board member of that group.

Family was at the heart of Linda's life. She and Jerry were unwavering in their care for their parents, with Linda stepping away from teaching to devote herself fully to their needs. She had a special bond with her nieces, who always felt deeply loved and valued in her presence. Above all, Linda took immense pride in her grandchildren and remained actively involved in their lives.

Linda's warmth, compassion, and sense of humor left an indelible mark on all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to those who loved her.

Linda is survived by husband Jerry Suddeth, son Chuck Suddeth (wife Jeanine), brother Ken Wise,

grandchildren Hannah and Ben Suddeth (mother Pansy), nieces Joanna Reece (husband Preston), Leslie Wise-Asch (husband Eli),

grand-nephew Jack Reece, grand-niece Hadley Reece, and numerous cousins.

Funeral service will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec 21, 2024 with a visitation at 1 PM followed by service at 2 PM.

We are so sorry and surprised to learn about Linda´s passing last week. My dad (Linda´s cousin Leroy Langston in Atlanta age 94) was telling stories of his childhood tonight, and we looked up Linda to see where she lived. Sending condolences to her family and brother Kenny.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Linda Suddeth. Our paths in life connected while serving on the Whitehall HOA Board. Linda always had a big smile and warm greeting for anyone she met. Her caring, giving ways were filled with true sincerity and always at the ready.
She will be missed.

Linda was my son, Shaun´s AGP teacher at Dutch Fork Elementary many years ago. He is 48 now! She was a bundle of energy and encouragement for her students no matter what their activity. Williamsburg, Olympics of the Mind and many projects were supported by Linda. At those Saturday OM competitions, you knew Linda would be there. They lasted an entire day.
I dare say Shaun has benefitted his entire life from the guidance Linda provided!
Linda was also my coworker at DFES. I know I can speak for many others at the school when I say that Linda was always a joy to work with.
So sorry to hear of her passing.

I did not know Linda for long as we met through a yoga class. She was always upbeat with a smile on her face and was also quite witty at times. I will miss her in class, but I know her family will miss her forever. Sending love and prayers.

I cannot adequately express my heartache over Linda´s passing. My family and I are forever grateful for the wonderful friend she was to my mother and the kindness and love she showed to each of us. I left every interaction with Linda feeling warmer and lighter. Her legacy of love and her generous smile will burn bright in all of us who were so blessed to know her. We are so sorry for the loss of our dear friend Linda. Susan and I moved to Columbia just 3 years ago and Linda and I became Board members of the Whitehall HOA at the same time. We became close friends and I have to say that she was the heart of our organization. I loved her infectious laugh and her spirit of kindness to all she met. Our hearts go out to Jerry and the family. We will miss her greatly. She was such a special lady. I know she will bring smiles in
heaven.

In 2017 we had the great fortune of becoming next door neighbors to Linda & Jerry Suddeth. What followed was 7 ½ years of close friendship and comradery. You couldn´t ask for nicer neighbors. From regularly sharing each other´s home-cooked meals & exchanging neighborly gifts, to daily meetings in the backyard, Linda was easy to love and a breath of fresh air to speak with. Her smile was contagious and her laugh had the sound of angels singing. Our dog Elwood fell in love with Linda the day they met. He would stand at the fence every day and wait for Linda to come out and see him. And every day, Linda would come out and reward him with an affectionate petting & a cookie. Elwood passed in June of this year, and Linda was as heartbroken as we were. We know that Elwood was one of many loved, departed souls that were there to greet Linda when she entered her eternal home in the Kingdom of Heaven. There is now a big empty void in our hearts and in our home. We feel lost without having her around to share laughs, stories & food with. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we take solace in our faith, knowing that we will all meet again when we are called back to our heavenly home. We love you Linda. For eternity. I am heartbroken to hear that Mrs. Suddeth is gone. I was lucky enough to have been taught by her for several years in AGP at Dutch Fork Elementary. She was one of my most favorite teachers. I kept in touch with her over the years but hadn't seen her since this picture was taken in 2018. Every time I saw her she loved reminding me of my chapped thighs walking around Williamsburg, VA way back when I was in 5th grade. We always had a good laugh about it. She was a wonderful teacher. I loved her so much. She had a huge impact on my life and I'm sure many many other students. She will truly be missed.

Love,
