Linda Warring Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2025.
Linda Lou Warring (Keener) of Toledo, Ohio, passed away at the age of 77 on January 31, 2025. Linda was born on October 15, 1947, to Virginia (Huss) and Lowell Keener. In her youth, Linda was a member of the Toledo, Ohio Marilynettes marching and twirling corps. She loved to recall how proud she was to perform with the corps in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Linda was a graduate of Morrison R. Waite High School's Class of 1965.

Linda went on to work as a nurse's aide at the Lutheran Home of Toledo, where she provided quality and tender care for hundreds of residents over a 30-year career. In a profession that could often see high job turnover, Linda was a loyal and steadfast employee. She and her long-time shift mates Dee Garcia and Marie Swann became affectionately known as "The Golden Girls." This was partly due to their career longevity, but mostly because they had each others' backs while finding ways to laugh, even during long and difficult shifts. Linda was known to work extensive stretches without a day off, often working double shifts in order to make ends meet or to earn a little extra money for Christmas shopping.

While working at the Lutheran Home, she played an instrumental role in unionizing the facility with Teamsters Local 20. One of her most challenging yet rewarding duties was serving for several years as Chief Steward for the union. Linda was extremely passionate about negotiating contracts to help secure fairer wages and benefits for hard-working eldercare employees.

In her retirement, Linda enjoyed reading, cheering for Ohio State football victories, and watching wildlife with her neighbors at Hope Manor, whom she became good friends with over the years. Linda and her neighbors looked out for each other, and she greatly appreciated their cooking, especially when her health and mobility began to decline.

Left to cherish memories of Linda are her three children, Timothy (Kimberly), Jennifer, and Michael (Sarah); her five grandchildren, Alisha, TJ, Rachel, Sierra, and Alden; and her sister, Carol Keener. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Linda will be interred at Toledo Memorial Park following a private service. Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Linda's home health aide, Anne Knack, for the loving care that she provided for several years. Anne's dedication, companionship, and friendship meant the world to Linda and her family.
