Lindsey Hoover Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2022.
It pains me to admit, but apparently kidney failure has won, and I have gone to join my father, mother and sister on the other side……Lindsey.

Mr. Lindsey Robert Hoover, 68, of Old Forge Road, Waynesboro, PA passed from this life at 3:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at home with his loving wife at his side.

Lindsey was born on February 27, 1954, in Waynesboro. He was the son of the late E. Glenn Hoover and Mary H. (Kephart) Hoover.

He was a 1972 graduate of Waynesboro Area High School.

Lindsey and his wife, Teresa (Castelluccio) Hoover, were married on May 1, 1981, in Westminster, MD.

Lindsey was a member of Tom's Creek United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg, MD. He was also a former member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, where he served as a member of the Leadership Team as the Physical Plant Team Chair and later as the Leadership Team Board Chair.

Lindsey was a man of many interests. He enjoyed racing both Autocross and Open-wheel racecars in the 1970's. Later, he enjoyed watching any kind of Open-wheel racing, especially Indy Car.

In 1982, Lindsey opened the first video rental store in the Waynesboro area, named Rent-A-Flick Video. He appeared in the 1992 film "Gettysburg" and the 1995 "Andersonville" with his best friend John Shindledecker.

He also served on the WaynesboroFest Committee, organizing the Car Show event. Lindsey was known for hosting an annual "Indy 500 Pig Out Picnic" on the day of the Indy 500 and for hosting many murder mystery dinner parties.

Lindsey will be well-remembered for his creativity, his fun sense of humor, his incessant, but loving teasing of his mother-in-law, his love for everyone, his kindness and most notably, for his enormous and undying love for his wife, Teresa.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a half-sister, Mary Alice Stoops (Larry) of Chambersburg, PA; his "sister from another mother", Amy F. Messler and her daughter, Cayden; nieces, Jana Swartz-Gillitzer of Blue Ridge Summit, PA and Kristi Swartz of San Diego, CA; his nephew, Will Swartz (Amy) of Waynesboro; sisters-in-law, Judy Eakle (Donnie) of Waynesboro, Becky Burns (Terry) of Harrisburg, PA, Julie Ulery (Dave) of Stansbury Park, UT, Angela MacDonald of New Cumberland, PA; and brother-in-law, Mike Castelluccio of Stillwater, MN.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, Lindsey was preceded in death by his younger sister, Julie Ann (Hoover) Swartz in 1997; his nephew, Jordan Raynor MacDonald in 2012; and his in-laws, John A. and Betty J. Castelluccio, in 2003 and 2017, respectively.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, officiated by Reverends Amy F. Messler and Heath Wilson. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mr. Hoover's request that contributions be made to: The Milton S. Hershey Penn State Medical Center Life Lion, 500 University Dr, Hershey, PA 17033.
