Lionel Hinojosa Obituary

Lionel G. Hinojosa, age 72, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 30, 1941 in Karnes City, Texas to Enrique & Lillie Hinojosa. Lionel worked in the funeral industry and at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home for many years. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Norma Jean Hinojosa, mother, Lillie Hinojosa and brother, Abel Hinojosa. Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Hinojosa and brother, Reynaldo Hinojosa. Visitation will take place from 6:00-9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014 with military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with Deacon Tim Tate officiating. My condolences to the Hinojosa Family. Lionel was a great person and a loving friend and co-worker to my father Cecilio Flores and my husband Felipe Celestino and uncle Alex Ayala who worked with at Royal Casket Company. He was a sweet and generious man.

I am heartbroken to hear that sweet Lionel passed away. I will always remember his smiling face when I would see him at Sunset. What fun I would have finding him in the cemetery and "waking him up". He wasn't really asleep, but I would tease him about "sleeping on the job". I was so thrilled for him when he decided to retire and I could tell he was happy too. It's very difficult to find the right words to say other than I am filled with sadness that Lionel is gone. Rest peacefully my friend. You will continue to make me smile every time I think about you.
