My siblings & I grew up with Uncle Lirio. He lived with us in the 50's in Olongapo City ,Philippines he was then working @ the Subic Naval Base and was with us until he married Auntie Beth in May 1950......He would play with us and spoil us endlessly. Uncle Lirio would always have pasalubong or stuff like candy bars or Apple he would bring us after work .Fridays were always days my siblings & I had looked forward...that was his payday he would call us as soon as he comes from work and we would all be around him. He would give us 50 centavos each to us w/c was a generous amount that time considering soda was only 10 centavos and jeepney fare .
Uncle Lirio was oh so very thoughtful that he would not missed to call us on our birthdays. he would sing us songs ...while playing his ukulele. He would not missed our bdays ever.....even when he had illness he would still call me ...but a year or two he called and greeted me happy bday but this time begged off and say he can't sing. He was wheezing and I could hear it on the phone .
Nov 8 Saturday two weeks ago was my birthday.... I got a call from him greeting me happy bday ...to my surprise I heard him playing his ukulele and started singing. He was wheezing all thru out his song that I tried to stop him. He was able to finish the song and finally said Anak happy birthday...I love you .. I need to use my nebulizer. Bye.... Little did I know that that would be his last bday song for me. Uncle Lirio ... up to the last minute made me feel special which he did to everyone . Everyone was special to him. Uncle Lirio..I love you and will sure miss you....this is not good bye but goodnight ....sleep tight and rest eternally with our good Lord. I Love you!!!

Our deepest condolences go out to Beth, Peter, and the family for the loss of Lolo and Dad Lirio. We will always miss his warm loving smile and of course his beautiful serenades when one of us had a birthday. We were fortunate to be able to spend time with him and the family when Lirio and Boyet lived in New Jersey and we will cherish those memories. Thank you Beth for letting us share some time with your Father.
With Love, Amber, Edna, & Glenn

Uncle Lirio was the father of my BFF, Bebeth. I will always associate him with happy memories of my growing up years.
I first met him in 1976 – the date is etched in my mind because he and Tita Betty invited us to their lovely home in Subic and I recall watching the Summer Olympics in Montreal on television. He toured us – a group that included my sister Dulce, cousins Lulu and Arlene - around Subic, long before it became a tourist destination. It was one of our best summer vacations ever.
Twenty five years later, we met again in New Jersey and he drove me, my toddler son Dino and my mum to Liberty Park in New Jersey, so we could get a closer look at the Lady in the Harbour.
Two Saturdays ago, I visited him in Las Vegas, and we had a photo together, taken by his son in law Peter. I was privileged to join him two days later to their regular family dinner, and it was like going back to days past when our respective families shared wonderful meals together.
Two days later, he was gone...
Paalam, Uncle Lirio, I will always think of you when I hear this Frank Sinatra song:
Softly, I will leave you, softly
For my heart would break if you should wake, and see me go
So I leave you softly....

Sending our deepest condolences and loving prayers for Daddy Taba. We will never forget your unconditional love and genuine kindness. We always had fun times with you and the whole Escota family. I recall your loving birthday song wishes that you would always send my mom when she was alive. We are lucky to have you as another angel watching over us. Have an amazing homecoming to your one and only love Ninang Taba and please give mom a kiss from me.
All our love,
Chin, Lyn, Rollie and families

Uncle,
With heavy heart, I will say goodbye and let you rest.
Thank you for your company for the days I spent in May and Junes home last year. You took me to the airport with May, and that's the last time I saw you.
What I will miss most is my birthday greet and the sound of your ukulele.
I will terribly miss you, Uncle Lirio.

Tito Lirio was like a father to me and to all of Leonel's friends. We were treated just like his own and was always so thoughtful and warm. He would always brighten our day with a song, playing his ukulele. I know that you will bring joy to all our friends up there the way you did ours. Sweet dreams daddy. We will miss you.

I am Peter's sister Monika and I am sorry to never have had the experience of meeting Lirio. But from all the wonderful words from
my brother and sister-in-law Beth over the years about Dad I wish I had. So to the family please accept my sympathy and prayers and also know that one day we will all be together again.

I will really miss you uncle Toto. You are the only one who calls me Kaythie and who tells me I'm your favorite.
I know you are in a better place now. But it gives us comfort that you are no longer in pain and you are reunited with auntie Beth and with your family.
We love you and rest assured that you will be in our hearts forever. Rest in peace now uncle Toto.
